Poison eye: colors?

I've realized I just have an irrational dislike of some colors, and they are often (though not always) ones that look bad on me. Or they have some weird association with frumpy in my mind. What are yours and why?

Mine:

Salmon/peach/coral: Not sure these are all the same shade, but I tend to lump them together in the "baby-aspirin" category. I can't wear them either.

Sage: Totally ODed on sage back in the late 90s and am so over it.

Soul-sucking beige: Speaks for itself.

True pastel greens, yellows, blues: while not all of these look awful on me, I immediately associate them with children: baby clothes, Easter eggs, cotton candy.

I know there are more!

Pastels and pale colours. This is part of the reason I dread spring each year, because so much of the clothing may be a cute style but is a dreadful colour. So that would include all the colours you listed, as well as the "mint" popular this season. They can look great on other people, but whenever I try them on myself I look in the mirror and think "twee".

And I never realized what SSB was until I tried on a neutral/putty coloured leather jacket recently. It felt great and was just the style I was looking for, but when I turned to look in the mirror... oh, it was just a tragic colour on me. Truly awful.

Una! I suffer from the same condition! Lol.
I don't like pastels, can't wear them, they feel frumpy on me.
Pinks, yellows, most greens, browns, beige, khaki....I could go on ha ha.

Agree with you on SSB and Sage (as an aside, I don't like sage the herb either, and J. was once bitten by a dog named Sage.)

I don't like that "stone" color that chinos always come in.

And there are a lot of low- to mid-saturation browns that I really dislike.

I can't wear pastels but I like how they look on others!

Tan, kahki and all its variations!

Yellow. While I love the bright sunny color, I avoid it as it hates me. A lot!

OMG MAGENTA. I hate it. It's completely irrational but it is by far my least favourite colour in the whole world. I don't hate it because of how it looks on me -- I have no idea if it looks good or bad. I just plain ol' hate that colour.

It's really the only one that I have an absolute poison eye for, though. I have a few other colours that I'm not particularly attracted to -- chartreuse, acidy yellows, salmony pinks, peach, a certain shade of light sage green -- but none of them inspire the strong negative reaction that magenta does.

Most neon colors, even though they're very on trend right now. I've never really loved them.

Pastels, especially pale pink. Mint green and pale turquoise are the big exceptions.

Tan/beige.

I like yellow but almost never wear it.

Okay. So am I totally weird that I don't have a poison eye for any particular colors?!? I avoid some like the plague for items that I wear (olive green+my face=bad, bad combo, very zombifying). But I still like it as a color. I have poison eye for certain combos (not a fan of full length colored pants for some crazy reason), but not for those items individually. I am weird, aren't I. It's okay. I own it.

I wouldn't wear a lot of the colours listed - but I don't have poison eye for any of them really. I think most colours look great on the right person; I used to work with a woman who has really dark brown skin - she looked amazing in pastels (she actually looked amazing in any colour).

I wear a very limited range of colors. Black, gray, navy, and white and most of my wardrobe. *shrugs* Well, when I do wear color, it pops!

No poison eye for me wrt colours - when worn on the right complexion, of course. I love all the colours!

Soul sucking beige came close to being poison eye - but I saw Japanese women in Japan wear it BEAUTIFULLY last year with shades of black, cream, white, and blush - and it blew me away. So there you go! Naughty me for having poison eye.

I *almost* have a poison eye for black head-to-toe-outfits. So often I find them extremely unflattering and deadening. Very dull, lifeless and aging on us all. But then unexpectedly, a stunning rendition comes out of the woodworks - and my poison eye is restored for a little while.

Another vote for pastels... oh and red and green together. Just looks like a Christmas tree. Same with black and orange for Halloween.

I was surprised that a coral sweater actually looked nice on me! I have *one* saturated/almost neon, coral-coloured, fine-guage sweater that looks a lot better than I would have expected.

Meanwhile, I have a bit of a poison-eye for certain pastel colours. I think it's because my Mom always pressured me into wearing pale pink, powder blue, lavender/lilac.

There seems to be an assumption that if you have blonde hair/blue eyes, then you should be wearing Easter-egg colours.

I have a really hard time with this - I don't want to wear colours that those awful Peeps marshmallow candies come in. No buttercup yellow, no pale pink, no lavender etc. At the same time, I am slowly coming around to the realization that too much black isn't any good on me either.

Hate to say it, but powder blue, pale pink, and buttercup yellow colours are almost like nails on a chalkboard to me. I love seeing mint on other people, but haven't tried it yet myself, because it's way too close to those "pastel" colours for me to even want to go near it.

It's like when I see one of these colours, I can almost feel a cavity forming.

I think all colors are beautiful in the right combination. Even beige. Sometimes colors don't look good, but then it is because they are on the wrong person or not well put together imho.

The only colour that I find repulsive is a yellowish medium brown--the colour my husband calls "baby poop brown", which probably explains my aversion.

I don't really have a poison eye towards any color, although the all-mint or all pink or all-coral thing I did last year no longer interests me. But I am loving oranges, as well as soft pinks and chambray tones. I also love all of the white, cream, beige, tan, stone, light grey, taupes etc. Soft, light neutrals basically.

And I am beginning to think that all colors look better on me than black. Even soul sucking beige looks better on me than black. But it is so hard to free myself from black. As we all know, it is readily available, slimming and hides the dirt. From 1985 on, I have worn a lot of black, but I'm really starting to re-think black because it looks so unflattering on me. (Another one of my turning-55 epiphanies.)

I can't think of a color that I absolutely hate - except for salmon - for some reason I kind of get a stomach ache when I look at that color. It is totally a visceral reaction - nothing conscious about my reaction to it. Other colors that I don't particularly care for include chartreuse, persimmon, rust, brown, beige, orange, olive green - but, they are all colors that look AWful on me, so its probably just my narcissism that is getting in the way of my attitude towards those colors!

I am not a fan of wearing pastels or beige, and the trend for neons is not exciting me too much but I won't rule out every wearing any specific colours in the future.

I am blonde and green eyes with a very low contrast face, but never loved pastels) others than a specifique pale, antique pink(blush?) for a top or sweatter (so no mint, or light blue).
I loved heathered shades, greys and taupes, creams and stones, chock browns AND some blacks pre YLF but after joining YLF lots of white and brighter colours, too:-).
I kind of know magenta is my worst nearby my face, but I love other shades of burgundies, purples and berries better and I learned that all colours are really doable if has something to relate to(aka the power of bookending).

That was exactly the case of my chuncky mint beads, worn with everything this spring. I never liked mint on clothes, but turned out mint in an accesory near my face picks out a bit the colour of my eyes (and perhaps of my specs which are green, too), and had got so many compliments since..

Still not loving royal (bright)blue on me as find it too harsh for a matter, but absolutely love it on others.

I had a poyson eye for neons pre YLF and still have for some, but Angie showed us that they are more than doable in small doses, too.

So I never say no, and never:-).

That pale mint that is in right now! Totally associate it with my now deceased American grandmother touring the world circa 1973. Love her, though, but not the colour.

I struggle with happy "candy" colors but I am trying to bring some in to my wardrobe. I also eliminated the soul sucking beige fear, especially for trench coats. Those are a classic!

My mum looks great in SSB and all those taupey/stone colours, so I dont hate it, but do think its draining on most people. I hate so many colours I cant even list them:) In my home decorating there is no red, pink, purple or blue, except in my daughters room. And I am a zealout for a limited palette on a person, or a design of any type.
And Angie I had just about convinced myself out of the all black look, when last week on the bus I saw the chicest woman I had seen for ages... wearing black from head to toe.

I have a poison eye for certain colors on me - certain olives, beiges, rusts really look awful next to my face, but I am happy to see them on the right person.

I love all shades of purple with the exception of puce even the word sends shivers. Having two young girls I also dislike barbie pink, barbie purple and all disney princess shades of saccharin.
