So, I am a size 16, so right between plus sized and not plus sized. As such, here are some ideas:
Ann Taylor carries up to size 18 on their website even though they only carry up to a 12 in store. The stores will take returns of any size.
Talbots - My favorite store by far. I think 3/4 of my wardrobe is from here as their clothes fit my body so well. They carry up to a size 20 in their regular line, and a I think a 24W in their women's. Their Plus size is cut differently than their regular, and sometimes I buy the 14W just because they put hidden comfort features in their plus line that they don't put in their regular line. Worth the extra $5 to me as I am a creature of comfort!
Nordstrom - This is my second favorite store. They have a plus line and some designers carry up to a size 18 in their regular line. Great place to add some trendy elements.
Chicos - I have only a few pieces from here, but their quality has been excellent.
Macy's - Terrible in store selection by me, terrific on line selection. And you can get free shipping and the store will take back anything you bought on line.
Zappos - they carry a wide array, and I was able to find my Levis jeans here. Free shipping and returns as they are online only.
Amazon - they carry a wide array, and I was able to find a few dresses here. Free shipping and returns (IF you buy from Amazon as the seller. Have to be careful on this).
Land's End - They carry up to an 18 I think in regular sizes. And they have a plus size. They cater to a different body shape than mine, so I only have one piece from them that had to be altered. Can't speak to them as much.
I have not yet tried Coldwater Creek. Bloomingdales does carry plus sizes, but there is none in my area, and they don't have free shipping and returns.
One thing to note on places like Talbots, Chicos etc. They can look a bit frumpy in their ads, but they have terrific pieces and great quality. I buy basics and the occassional fun piece from them. You can get classic styles (which I like a lot) at these retailers, but I buy my trendier pieces from Nordstrom's.
Plus size stores that are too big for me, but might work for you (look at the measurements - the size 14 at Igigi was still too big for me)
Igigi - Gorgeous clothes, especially their dresses. Check them out on line and see if there are any places near you that carry their line. This store runs big.
Kiyonni - another really nice boutique. Check them out on line and see if there are any places near you that carry their line.
