Pleather--how to clean?

Hi everybody. I have a pair of the Pilcro pleather front pants that need to be cleaned. The tag says wash cold and cool tumble dry / or/ dry clean. Have you all had experience cleaning this material? Any words of wisdom appreciated.

The safest bet is to clean your faux leather clothing with a damp cloth, or at most, hand wash it.

What complicates cleaning is that they're pants and should be cleaned if only for sanitary reasons plus the mixed media aspect.

Thrifty me would hand wash it and block as it's drying. It might wrinkle or crease the pleather permanently. if i would be super sad if the pleather did not look like the prewashed version, I would suck it up and dry clean.

I wash my pleather front jackets in the washer on cold and air dry. I wouldn't put it in the dryer unless you have an air-only cycle.

thank you for the replies Zoiechic and bj1111--you've highlighted some of my thoughts and concerns.

Diana --I am pleased to read that you've had success washing pleather/mixed media clothing! Very encouraging.

The care tag even said the pants could be ironed which seemed so unlikely I figured the whole tag was suspect!

I've also washed items with pleather, gentle and air dry.

I would handwash it with gentle soap.

My concern with washing it with laundry is that many laundry detergents these days have enzymes that are designed to break down dirt. I don't know what the effect would be on non-fabric items like pleather.

Shedev- great to know gentle wash with air dry has worked for you as well.

peacechick: very good point about the type of soap. I will see if I still have some woolite...

I've only sponged my pleather pants down with cold water and then just air dried them. I don't wear them very often though. I plan to handwash with some gentle dish soap like Ivory. If yours (like mine) say machine washable, then they probably are - but I like to be safe.

Pilcro is Anthropologie's line, right? I would call an Anthro store and speak to one of the SA's and ask if any of the SA's have info on how best to wash the pants.

I have washed faux leather items in the sink with gentle soap made for handwashables and have never had a problem.

I have a jacket with pleather sleeves and have washed it in the machine (gentle, cold, low spin) and air dried, same as Shedev. No problem.

Forgot to mention, I turn the garment inside out too. So the pleather doesn't get smacked around too much in the machine.
