about this cute striped blazer. It is pretty expensive and I *should* focus on other needs, like ppl non-skinny jeans, for example. It would only be good for spring and summer, or what do you think? But I just keep thinking about it ever since I saw it in store and they are running out of sizes. I love the three-quarter sleeves, the piping, and the stripes. I just commented on Angie's blog how I have been so over blazers, but they are starting to feel right to me again. The blazer is from Esprit. I can't post a link due to how their website works.

Just adding that I wore a blouse with a fine red/white stripe and slight sheen to give a presentation the other day and the tight geometric pattern was making me dizzy out of the corner of my eye. Has this happened to anyone else or am I losing it?

Oh dear. That *is* an awesome blazer and I can just picture you in it. I think you could extend its wear into early fall. Much as I like it for you though, if your budget doesn't allow it when you have some other wardrobe priorities, I say just let it go. If it's still in your size if/when it goes on sale and that makes it work into your budget, snap it up then. There will always be some other exciting addition to your wardrobe in the future!

I'm afraid I can't in all conscience tell you to forget since I just bought a very similar one (by Loft, minus the 3/4 sleeves, sadly, but I figure I will make up for that with scrunching). Mine was thrifted, so at least the expense wasn't bad.

I agree, it is a spring/summer jacket (if the material is what I think) but oh, such a cute one!

I guess, one question is, how long is this likely to look current? I honestly don't know the answer to that since I am a newbie, so it is not rhetorical; I'm really curious. Are we going to be wearing shrunken blazers for a while? (Please say yes!)

Alaska-girl--good to hear. I have worn my top before and never noticed it, but this time whenever I looked down it was a little psychedelic. I think I need to get my prescription adjusted in any case.

Scarlet, it happens to me whether I'm wearing my glasses or not - the pattern starts to twitch and look like static lines on the TV. Very off-putting!

Yes--it was like it was moving! So weird.

Re: PPL jeans, well I can just continue with flats since it is so hard to find a modest heel anyway...I am terrible.

Awesome blazer, and it looks like it would fit petites. How did it look on you? It is tough for me to find blazers that fit well.

I am no help as I am biased and like Esprit in general. I do think you can wear this blazer past spring and summer. In fall I would layer a 3/4 sleeve turtleneck underneath is, or roll up the sleeves of a LS t-shirt or sweater.

Now I ask you if it's returnable. If yes, buy it, give it a few weeks and you'll know if you should really keep it or not.

Suz - I am not expert but I feel like the shrunken blazer will be good for at least a couple of years. Anyway I like the 3/4 length because I often scrunch anyway.

Modgrl - I didn't try it on--I was afraid it might possibly stick to me and follow me home. In general Esprit cuts are really good for me, so I expect it would work. They cater well to petites,like most french and italian brands in my experience. At least I am pretty sure it's french.

Lisa - good point with the turtleneck--i can envision that looking very cute.

Well ladies, you are not doing a good job of discouraging me, I must say.

Where do you live, weather wise? I bought a full price striped J Crew blazer this spring and only wore once or twice due to our hot, hot climate! I don't think mine can go in the fall but yours might be able to depending on the fabric. Is it seersucker or cotton?

ETA: It's June and high tomorrow is 65. No problem there, sigh. It is cotton, not seersucker.

Ann Taylor recently had a similar jacket that I almost bought, but passed on, and I'm so mad at myself! It sold out in a flash. I live in a warm climate though, and could have worn it quite often. I think that's a great, classic style! (Helping much?)

It *is* adorable, and I really wish I could encourage you because I also have a blazer-shaped hole in my wardrobe.

But -- here's the question you should ask yourself -- when you were dressing yourself last month, how often were you sighing to yourself "I wish I had non-skinny jeans" vs "I wish I had a gray summer blazer"? If the lack of non-skinny jeans has bugged you more, then I would encourage you to concentrate there first. When you're done filling that hole, you can always come back for the blazer ... with the added benefit of end-of-season sales!

Charmian - you hit the nail on the head. I ask myself maybe twice per week, why don't I have non-skinny dark wash jeans? and zero times, why don't I have a gray summer blazer? This is really smart advice from you AND I love penguins.

Nevertheless, I tried on the jacket after work and made the purchase. It's not that often that something really jumps out at me like this, and I am reassured knowing that a number of you also thought this was extra-adorable. I know exactly the jeans I want, and they are always available in some version, so they will have to wait another month or two. This is officially my reward for passing the f@!#$*@#$ German driver's license test this week. Although I had to give up my American license, sniff. sniff. sniff.

It's a great blazer, I understand why you felt like you had to have it.

Congratulations on passing your driver's license test! I know how hard it is (also German here!) - I had to take the practical test two times because I had a really strict examiner the first time who made me soo nervous I couldn't think straight. I was so angry about it and it did cost me so much money additionally! I'm out of probation period since this spring and I'm really glad about it.

Late here, but the jacket looks fab and perfect for you! I'll bet it will look cute over some of your dresses, like that fitted navy shirtdress that you were wondering about styling a while back (if my memory doesn't fail me!). Congrats on passing the driving test; that sounds pretty intense. Are you officially a German now :)?

Jonesy, you are the best. Funnily enough, I really wouldn't have thought of that pairing--blazers and I are just starting to work things out after years of separation--but I will try it out!
