Please tell me this isn't a purse...

Surfing around Pinterest this morning and I stumble across this photo from Fashion week. Please someone tell me that isn't a Chanel purse. It looks like she is carrying a Chanel branded doormat.

While I love funky and maximal style in general, I honestly can't even figure out what that thing is supposed to be! A purse that doubles as a take-it-with-you-doormat to wipe your feet on between fashion shows?

I wonder if this article sheds some light (not sure what quality the Guardian is, I'm not familiar with it)? The quote below suggests that the idea is to mock (my impression) those that wear brands for brands-sake ... which imo is a terribly obnoxious criticism coming from a person whose entire life's work is about sustaining a brand ... so yucky on so many levels ...

torontogirl, oh thank goodness! Cuz if that was an actual purse I was truly going to just declare fashion dead.

..and for what's it worth, I think the idea of having a Chanel branded doormat is just frikkin' stupid, imho.

haha leopardluxe, and I was worried I sounded too judgy ... because if someone really wants a Chanel-branded doormat and/or doormat-shaped clutch, well, to each his own!! But I'm with you, I'll stick with "Welcome", thank you very much Karl!!

The doormat may have been a gift issued to all show attendees. That would be my guess. It's not a bag.

Oh I know a lot of people who would want that. I would want one. It's hilarious. Although it seems not many people would get the joke!

Lol, the article is interesting. Torontogirl, my understanding is that the Guardian is a very respected paper - with a huge online circulation, it also often has a distinct point of view in its cultural reviews (the paper as a whole is the more left wing of the top UK 'serious' papers).

I think it all depends on perspective as to how you see the show as celebrating vs. lampooning fashion as commerce. The door mat came from the grocery store Chanel set, where reporters and guests were invited to wander and take some items after the show (whereupon a Walmart-on-Black-Friday like scene ensued, apparently) .
