In summer, I go barefoot most of the time indoors. But our summers are typically warmer than yours and we don't have air conditioning.
Sometimes I'll wear a lesser -worn outdoor sandal (i.e. for "dress up" night with Mr. Suz I like to wear real footwear.) Also, in summer we tend to go in and out to our courtyard patio, so in general, we hold to our habit of "no outdoor shoes in the house" much less often than we do in winter.
When I'm cooking, I do try to remember to cover my feet. Sometimes I wear my slip on sneakers as slippers.
Last winter I made an effort to improve my indoor footwear as part of my overall goal to focus on at-home style. On Gryffin's recommendation (and yours, too!), I bought these Merrells. They are lined in sheepskin and super warm. The soles are firm and outdoor-worthy (i.e. I can dash out with the recycling box or to grab the paper without a problem.) They offer support and comfort on hardwood and protection for my toes when cooking. They seem very durable; I am sure they will last a while.
But honestly? I still feel frumpy in them and since I spend so much time at home (or outside in snowy conditions, wearing snow boots) I miss my nicer footwear! So sometimes (shhhh) I actually wear my outdoor booties indoors. They are not as convenient because they don't slip on and off. But some of them get so little outdoor wear that I think they really do still qualify as indoor shoes! Especially my Munros, which have soft slipper-like uppers.
I looked into smoking slippers as house slippers, and would happily go that route, but I have yet to find the magic one that stays on my foot. I ended up donating the pair I tried to Mona.
I'm going to continue the indoor shoe/slipper search this year.
