On the heels of last week's link, about Canada Goose becoming a luxury item... my baby sister, who lives in Chicago and has a Canada Goose coat, sent me this.

She was very annoyed, because she feels this article marks her as a bit of a target. People who didn't know this coat was valuable... do now. She also disagrees with the baseline of the article - that most people in Chicago aren't buying their coats to be trendy, but to be warm.
She also said when the article came out, some of her co-workers asked about her coat. She said she didn't buy it for the status, she saved up and bought it to keep warm. She's thrilled that it does the job!
When she bought her coat, she marked the date on her calendar, well in advance, that the coats would be available at Nordstrom. When she went shopping, she said it was chaos, mobbed with women, and coats were being pulled right off the mannekins and rung up at the register.
She was able to try two different red coats, so that she could select the one that best fit her needs (public transport in freezing temperatures), that she thought looked the best on her.
I don't think either of us ever viewed CG as a 'luxury' item. To us, that's Hermes bags, and Chanel suits - things that just aren't part of our budgets or lifestyle.
