Oh my!! Are there some unsavory and insensitive social practices going on at one of the Ylf community's favourite destinations? This article suggests there may be: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2....._n_7655410...

I wonder a bit about the methodology, but am otherwise distressingly unsurprised by this report. Perhaps that's my cynical journalistic side talking, but maybe not. Have you guys experienced anything of the sort?

ohh, compartment syndrome. Our son has hemophilia and several years ago got his arm smashed between two heavy door sections that close off a great room at his university. He was blocks away from a trauma hospital but didn't want to go. Some days later he was losing movement in his fingers. He went to the hospital. They said they would just open it and drain it. He was reluctant. It took hours and hours and 3 or 4 teams of various doctors before he agreed. They explained that compartment syndrome was the one true orthopedic emergency. They told him he could lose the arm. So it all turned out okay but with a pic line and day and night visiting nurses to administer clotting factor and lots of bandage changes and wound cleaning and now he has a scar like a shark bite. At the annual hemophilia family dinner that year, they showed film of 3d world hemophiliacs without treatment - yup, compartment syndrome and amputation. Sure is something to avoid at all costs.
