I am currently drooling over the beautiful coats at British retailer Cabbages and Roses, and judging from the responses here on the forum, I am far from the only one. The company's core values of beauty, simplicity, longevity, integrity and sustainability seem wonderfully commendable as well. I'm crossing my fingers that they come to the US!

I really enjoyed reading this article about the style of Marilyn Monroe (written because of the movie coming out featuring Michelle Williams as Marilyn) by the Guardian newspaper's Fashion Editor Jess Cartner-Morley. It was originally dated mid-November, but was sydicated in a newspaper in New Zealand over the weekend (so apologies if someone has already suggested it).

I always picture Marilyn as she dressed in movies and it was interesting to read about the contrast of how she dressed in real life, plus her love of Pucci!

Love her or leave her, Madonna's new film W.E. is coming out in a few weeks - she directed - and according to many critics, it is a visual feast. It's based on the true story of King Edward VII and the American divorcee he abdicated the throne for. As a lover of many things English, I'm so looking forward to this! A recent YLF question got me wondering why some wool is itchy yet cashmere is not. I found this post with a micrograph of the difference in scales on the fibers. This also explains why wool will shrink or felt - when hot and wet the scales from different fibers can lock together.

Londonkiwi, I was fascinated by the Marilyn links. I probably would have skipped reading it if you hadn't posted the link here. I wanted to get rid of everything that wasn't ivory, cream, etc. But don't you doubt this was her "real" wardrobe since it was photographed? And also from the Edith Head books, it seems that many stars and starlets turned to studio designers to dress them suitably for their personal lives.
Oh well, we don't have Edith Head but we have Angie!

I've been waiting to post this article, because I found it so interesting now that we are experiencing cooler weather here in North America. Titled "Cuticles Versus Icicles," the article offers practical advice on how to protect our dry cuticles during the winter months. What I really liked is how reporter Melissa Magsaysay recommended not only a good retail cuticle oil, she also shared an at-home remedy, too. I'm excited about this news: Lizzie Garrett Mettler, the author of the TomboyStyle blog (I, like many other YLF'ers, really enjoy it) has now also written a book about the history and evolution of this style with plenty of eye candy, of course. Sounds promising!

I read this article last week, but I really liked it and it stuck with me. It's from a blog called, "Two Nerdy History Girls," who both write historical fiction and blog about all the interesting historical things they come across in their research. They often blog about historical fashion, which I love.

This post is called "Tinted Glass Spectacles, c. 1830." I really found the painted portraits of the men in smoked glasses fascinating, because it's something you don't see that often. I was also surprised that "sunglasses" (even in this early form) have been around so long, and have come a long way.

Angie, do you post a forum post for weekly link love every week? I keep missing it as I've been away from the forum recently, but I have wanted to share the blog http://frocksandfroufrou.com/ ever since you started doing weekly links. I found it searching for plus sized fashion blogs about a year ago, and it was my favorite of the ones I found. It is refreshing to see a person post outfits with style whose body is more similar to mine than most models are. Perusing plus size fashion blogs has helped me to reset my eye and appreciate the beauty of people who are not size 4 or smaller, including myself.

I just now stumbled on this blog, and I really admire this young woman's ability to create outfits that are sophisticated and fresh, richly textured yet sleek and with unexpected, fun twists.
