I love the idea of exquisitely tailored vintage coats since my style is a little retro ladylike. But I don't have the experience or knowledge to shop vintage. Hoping to win the book contest on how to buy vintage! Otherwise, I'm just taking the inspiration and looking for retro-style new pieces instead. I just found a red princess coat with a lace collar at ASOS and it's on its way to me now!

I just loved reading about the annual London Tweed Run in Susie Bubble's blog. Everyone gets dressed up in old timey tweed outfits and leisurely rides around on bicycles saying things like "Good day sir." Very fun and the pictures of all the style on display are fabulous.

So I was at a party about 10 days ago (I know, another one) and I ran into a delightful man who has a real interest in formal dress for men. He's since developed a great web resource on this very topic. Must be a good week for vintage coats!

Gertie from "Gertie's New Blog For Better Sewing" finished sewing a raglan sleeve coat from Vogue's 1952 New Book for Better Sewing. I love the retro style, and can't help but smile at the robin's egg blue wool with peachy polka dot charmeuse lining.

Under "Gallery" you will find creations worm by a man (but possibly unisex); you must click "Collaborations" for women's fashions and the full array of what he does.

I read in an article that he discovered his passion for crochet at age 13, when most boys are into hockey. He then quickly became popular among girls of his class who all wanted to wear his creations. What he does with the yarn is truly fabulous. He says that anything can be crochet-ed, including jewellery and zippers (!) .
