Brooklyn, that was great.
I have footwear style/ silhouette “ issues with midi’s ( for me) that I would like to get over, but haven’t yet.
I have hoarded some ankle strap pointy flats that are very wearable if I had to wear a dress with nude hose. Otherwise I have kept 2 warmer skirts that I would exclusively wear with dark tights and low- heeled boots including stompy-
ish boots.

nuancedream - Fab to hear they are doing well. The consignment store I occasionally go to has been busier than ever too.

Runcarla - I'm nodding here, and we're definitely seeing things like the "homewear wardrobe" coming through already.

It's so hard to shop exclusively online when you can't judge true color, feel of fabric, how it drapes... But what about when you can't judge anything else because of how hard the website is trying to be editorial?
I learned long ago from a knitting book to beware of cutesy poses that hide the fit issues. Here's a reddit discussion from this very angle - famous Zara dress modeled underwater! - that calls out all the strategies like model's hair covering entire neckline, very active poses that obscure camel toe on leggings or perfect outfit to look good when you're passed out on the floor. Ruefully, true and funny.

Thanks so much, Vildy, I had to laugh but was nodding in agreement so much too. It can be so annoying, and just makes it hard to judge an item of clothing and its fit. One I see so often is the model posing in "artsy" ways, bending over, hunching etc. so there's no way to actually gauge where a skirt or dress hem would hit me etc. You'd think brands create problems for themselves that way, as I can imagine more items being returned because of this?

Ohh, hems! You're so right. I'm very short so I can easily hem up but what a headache for tall people not to be able to see something so basic and would be a dealbreaker. Alternative would be to try to find out the length measure on Every. Single. Item. that catches the eye.

Thanks Vildy! I've been relying on reviews, but so much to think about with the photos. I do look at the garments in the lighter colors to see details and pay attention if skirts/dresses are obviously sheer at the legs or if the pants show under tops.

Vildy - Yes! I always try to do that. Sometimes it's easy because the retailer (like Boden) publishes the measurements for every item and size on each product page, but often it's just a guessing game. You are so right that Angie's roundups and descriptions are incredibly helpful for this.

Suntiger - Yes! I do that too. Sometimes it's easier to see details like that on the lighter coloured version of an item.

Carla - Ah, I've run out of articles I'm allowed to read on NYT this month, but I've no doubt it's a good one, thanks!-)
