Vildy, L'Abeille and elpgal, thanks for those interesting links.
suntiger - Thank you, you are very sweet.
Fashintern - Hah! Not quite yet, it appears. I'm hearing from other whippet owners that it usually takes about 2 years for them to really calm down And this "forced rest" is very frustrating for my little chap.
Vildy - Thank you, yes, his paw is healing nicely and he should be able to go on slightly longer walks (on lead) again next week. But this week is turning out to be a loooong one;-) And so funny, all the whippets I know, including Felix, are actually VERY food-focussed:-)) Which is brilliant because, like you said, it's much harder to train or distract a doggy when they are not (trainers then recommend rewarding with play, just praising with your voice, or cuddles, but I imagine that that's not always as effective as being able to lure them away from mischief with treats).
The only thing that keeps Felix occupied for a little while during recovery is a bully stick or some other chew that takes a bit longer to eat. But then again, he can't eat those all day long, and he tires very quickly of brain games and calm play with a toy, so it's been a challenge...
Hah:-)) Your sweet "puppy" sounds just as active and high-energy as Felix, so I hear you on those treats! Also, it must have been very difficult when he was younger with your son and husband: all the puppy biting when they are teething, and yes, the scratching (Felix has really sharp nails too).
P.S. Here's my little patient:
