the NYTimes is running a series called "Overlooked No More", its obits for people who due to mainly gender and/or race did not get an obituary in the Times when they died. Anyway, last week they ran one on a women named Florence Merriam Bailey, who was instrumental in develping modern bird watching and wrote the 1st field guide of American birds....and it all started becuase she was disturbed by the fashion of the day, wearing birds (feathers, heads and carcasses) on your hat....anyway, i thought it was so interesting how her protest of a fashion she disliked lead to something so big and such a fundamental change to how something (bird watching) was practiced....plus, i just like to learn about strong women who helped shape our world, but how some to have gotten lost to time...
