This caught my eye the blue garment with only a mesh rectangle in front of the eyes - has made a comeback, with more women seen wearing them in Kabul and other cities for two reasons—1 the word “comeback” seems poorly chosen to me; I remember complaints the last time around, when the Taliban were a more clear outgrowth of the US-sponsored mujahadin, that those things were new, not traditional Afghan clothes. 2 I’ve been seeing more about the distinctions between experiences of women in the cities and rural areas, where most people live, like The New Yorker’s fascinating and depressing piece by Anand Gopal titled “The Other Afghani Women”. It fits well with the idea from your article that women in cities would start wearing the new garments sooner.
