Angie is too kind to ever mention this..but if you order anything from Nordstrom during the Half yearly sale ( or anytime ) and you link through YLF, Angie and Greg make a small commission. They never advertise this.

Since I NEVER pay them...I can at least encourage someone else to !! LOL ! But I am pressing the "confirm order" tomorrow...forget SYC.

Thank you Angie for all the lists, it has to just be a ton of work and you don't even mention the link on your site. You are really something else.

There are other sites as well that link through YLF !!

You actually reminded me that I had forgot to add the disclosures to those posts. Now corrected.

And it is true that Angie puts a lot of work into those lists, but she has a lot of fun doing it.

I actually was going to ask about this a couple of days ago because I was listening to a story about Facebook and they mentioned that the click-through rate for their ads is pretty low. I meant to ask Greg how do sponsored posts and links to retailers work for this site because I would also like to make sure that Angie and Greg get the credit for their hard work.

If I click on an item from Nordstrom that is mentioned in a blog post and then purchase a different item from Nordstrom during the same browsing session, do you get paid? What happens if I close the browser window and open a new window or go to a different page and then return to the retailer?

Makrame, here is how I think it works:

If you click on an affiliate link (like the ones in today's posts) and then purchase something at Nordstrom (not necessarily the specific item) within a day or so, then we get a commission from Nordstrom.

This should also be true if you close the browser and open a new window.

That is, unless you follow an affiliate link from another site to Nordstrom before making the purchase. I think that whoever's link was clicked most recently gets the commission.

All that said, and although I'm extremely appreciative of the sentiment, you should not worry about this at all. Just enjoy the site and let the technology take care of the details. As Angie would say, "It should be fun!"

Thanks for the reminder! I've only ordered once from Nordie's, but I'd just read an article about blog revenue, so I clicked through the YLF site. I appreciate very much the "business model" that Angie and Greg follow -- they offer much for "free," without constantly peddling, and they allow forum members to share their knowledge with one another. Generosity is always the best way to build a business or a community, and I'm happy to pass it on!

Thank you for reminding us of this Isabel! I actually would like to make a purchase from the list today. I clicked on the link to Nordstrom and in the upper right hand corner there was a link that said "Free shipping, click for details" that wouldn't work. I'd need to get free shipping on my item, can anyone tell me what I have to do? I didn't want to close the window and go directly through the Nordstrom website, but after reading Greg's comment, I guess they would still get the commission?

Never mind, I just got my answer by typing "free shipping" in the search box. I was afraid I'd have to sign up for their credit card or something, and I don't, yay!

I did order from the sale. I already placed my order. Is it too late to link to affiliate?

Ok. I think I am good. I did make my purchases by clicking a link from YLF to the Nordstorms site. I may not have purchases the exact item I linked from, but I did find that item from having been at YLF first. If this is not correct, please advise and I'll make it right in the future.
