Please help/ Wondering about

Barbara Diane

I’m attending some outdoor wedding events and will be wearing my N95 mask, Probably very few of us will be masked,

I’m wondering if there are decorative masks to go on top that still let you breathe, or if there is a way to decorate the mask that doesn’t make it less effective or make breathing harder.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

A white KN95 mask is the only mask I'm wearing, and it matches the white in my outfits. Do you have white in your outfits, Barbara Diane? In the patterns or in jewellery, if not in a solid.

I’ve seen more solid color masks than patterns, but both are out there.

There are also simple fabric masks, if you want to put one over your k95. Personally, I think that’d be too much for me. But there are lots of patterns online for how to make your own, do you can choose your fabric

I was going to suggest a black N95, or wearing a fabric mask over. There are Tons of options on Etsy!

I wear the Korean KF94s.

My favorites are from a brand call Masklab. These are not technically a KF94 because Korean laws require to be officially called that they need to be made in Korea. This brand is made in Hong Kong and I found them thru an individual that was independently, not for profit, testing all kinds of mask. They come in a wide variety of patterns. I also buy the earloop adjuster kit that they sell and I use them on both this brand and the beheathly mask that I wear.

I'd go with classic white or black assuming it ties into your outfit, but it sounds like there are options out there I'd never considered. I hope you have a lovely time!

Hotodeal, available on Amazon, makes colour and pattern masks. They are not the official US N95 and do not do the official required labelling, but I did a lot of searching on masks and watched video reviews where the scientist doctor filmed the testing of masks - and Hotodeal consistently passed and performed well.

Wow, so many good ideas! Thank you for your responses. I really thought the answer was going to be no, sorry, so this is wonderful and making me smile.

Angie, I hadn't thought of repeating the white elsewhere in my outfits. One of them does have white already in it, and the other I could add white accessories. Or switch out my outfit.

Suz, thanks for pointing out the classic black and white, and thanks for the wishes. So many weddings we've been invited to turned into tiny family or couple only affairs due to Covid that it is nice to have this one.

http://www.maryfrances.com has beautiful masks, purses, cell phone holders, etc and I've found the several I've gotten over the yrs to be high quality. Maybe one could fit over a filter?

Just chiming in that most people who tell me they are wearing an N95 mask are actually in KN95 ( or similar). The real medical N95 mask, properly fitted, is rather stifling. I wore them back in the day, working with Tb patients and some other air- borne pathogens and of course the pandemic health care workers have been wearing them for COVID. I would not be able to tolerate one for an extended time at all ! I don’t think the real ones come in colors, but you never know. I agree that some version of KN95 seems best bet and seems more “ natural “, if possible, if it isn’t too garish and goes along with your coloring.

Doggeh lover, Oh my goodness, you have sent me down the rabbit hole. I think it will be easier to breath with just one mask, but now I am looking at the other fabulous beaded items on the site.

Unfrumped, thank you for explaining the difference. It actually relives me, as I had heard that the N95's, worn right, made breathing sooo hard, and that the people treating Covid patients were getting indentations on their face. And therefore, I was worried that I had no protection at all because I was wearing my mask wrong. But OTOH I didn't really want my mask to be that challenging. And of course, the ones I have been wearing are the KN type.Thanks for the correction. And thanks for your work with Tb and other patients.
