As for your question…I think they will look great either long or short. They look great as they are right now, but if you really want to turn them into ankle boots, I like the shape of the last ankle bootie (picture #6) best.
The trouble with making any irreversible changes to your boots is that you can’t test it out. I’ve had the experience (many times!) of loving a pair of boots, then trying them on and finding that they are totally unflattering. A lot of times this is because the shaft of the boot ends at a bad spot on my leg. If you’re pretty confident that these boots will suit you at ankle length, however, then why not go for it? It could be fun.
