Please help me decide what to wear - does this work? ETA final choice

For what it's worth, I've added pics #6 and #7 of WIW. I ended up buttoning the blouse collar and wearing a costume jewelry bow pin that was my mother in law's and an opal ring that was my husband's grandmother's. Both are details that would never have occurred to me pre-YLF. Thanks for your opinions! I hope this worked : )

We have an event to attend where any one of these outfits would be appropriate. I wore #3 last weekend and #4 on Christmas Eve.

#1 is the question mark. Do the cap like sleeves on the dress preclude wearing a blouse underneath? The bodice of the dress is velvet, the skirt is a knit and the blouse is satin.

All four photos are with my nude fishnet stockings. I always wear a pair of nude control top hose underneath, which I'm not wearing in these pics.

#4 is probably the most "fashion forward" - such as it is - for me.

What do you think? I'm open to any and all suggestions for improvements. Thanks in advance!

I think #1 looks fine! I couldn't wear it as an IT, but you look proportionate and stylish. Funny about #3 because that's a relatively conservative look in my book, but it's fab and I wear it for work often (dress plus boots). YLF!

Thanks, Una! I corrected a typo - I meant #4 with the sweater/pencil skirt/boots was the most "fashion forward" for me.

I like #3 best, but then I love wrap dresses as a general rule. #1 is my second favorite.

I think #1 totally works! You've mastered layering under a dress!

I also like #4, but would prefer a cooler-toned boot with the cooler-toned sweater and skirt (love the mix of colors of the skirt and sweater!) Like grey boots. Possibly your black ones, but that might be too dark. This is a small niggle.

Thistle, I should have known what you would prefer : ) Isis, The camel boots are really the only option other than black. Were I daring I could try the SE Petty pythons! And the layering is all inspired by Ingunn and her dress challenge.

So I put on the sweater, pencil skirt, hose, python boots AND shapewear - and my camera battery died. I'll try later.

I like #1 and #3 the most too pil. One would think the blouse doesn't exactly work underneath #1 but somehow you have pulled it off with a slim fit white blouse, aka no bagging where the cap sleeves are. Do you have different shoes to make #1 more festive? How about a bootie?

Wow, you layer most excellently! I love the sleekness of 1 and 3. So fab. I think the sweater and pencil looks good but definitely more casual. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these. Nice to have great options!

Kallie, the only other shoes that would work are a relatively low heeled black open toe patent or a higher heeled long and squarish toe suede/leather pump. A nude patent pump is on my shopping list.

Yes, it definitely works! It looks sleeker with the booties. Another great option.

Thanks Kellygirl. I think my friends heads would explode if I wore that with the booties. They had lots to say about them when I wore them with jeans......I'm not exactly sure if they were being complimentary or not.

First off, #4 with the tall boots is super fabulous and I hope you wear that out and about often! It reads as more casual than the dress options, which makes me a little confused about the dressiness level of your event. Both dress layerings look good to me, too, and perhaps #1 would also work with a silky type button-up blouse. May as well play up the luxurious fabric vibe, no?

Aida, it's a fundraiser, but around here you often see a little of everything as far as attire. The blouse in the picture is satin, but the collar isn't winged or anything unusual. If I tried it buttoned would you suggest a necklace with it? I have the pearls in the picture or a black beaded costume jewelry piece. Or there is rhinestone bow in the pencil skirt pic too.

I missed that it's satin, I like that very much! I have a hunch that open like this is going to look better than buttoned up because of the sleeve shape, but I could be wrong of course. I like the pearls, they are very classic looking if that's OK for the fund raiser. If it DOES work buttoned up, then I think it would be fun to try the rhinestone bow at the neck like an actual bow-tie

I like the purple dress the best (#3) but I would pair it with a sheer or patterned black hose for low contrast with the boots. You look gorgeous in this dress and a white shirt underneath with just collar and cuffs showing looks very classy.
I may be a spanner here but I like the outfit with booties the least: I find they cover the slimmest part of your ankles. I think these booties are hard to wear with skirts. When I compare #4 and 5 there is no question for me that #4 is much more flattering: you really rock tall boots with the best of them!

Thanks Zap, Aida and Sveta! I'm leaning toward the black dress and blouse as I haven't worn it yet : ) Sveta, thanks for commenting on the booties too. I just don't find myself brave enough to wear them yet with a skirt. You have an excellent point about the ankles too, although mine are hardly slim.

I like 1 and 3 the best for the occasion, as they are dressier--get it? (groan!) You look great in all of the outfits, though. I do love the fuschia skirt as a nod to Spring, and I prefer the look with the tall boots. I like the booties with the skirt, too, but I get Sveta's point, and I think I would prefer that shoe/skirt combo with a more contoured waist profile--e.g., a cardigan buttoned at the waist or open over a belted top--that kind of thing.

For a fundraiser, I vote for #1. I'm also quite partial to #4.

Beth Ann, the closet frustration has more to do with spring/summer. I hope to start another thread on a couple of purchases soon.
