Please help me choose new specs? PART II

I started another attempt today and tried to pay attention if the frames were droop-y or not. I was in three stores for maybe five hours and I think I really tried on almost every plastic frames they had. I had a hard time finding specs that didn't look droop-y to me, had the right color and did follow the line of my brows at the same time. I felt like a mutant! Most frames were droop-y on me and the "hip" frames looked like the specs my mother used to were in the early 90's. Do you know what I mean?

I'm still not sure if the shape of these are better, perhaps you can help me out? The colors are unfortunately not realistic because of the flash, I'll try to describe them.

#1/2 Without flash. I think the shape is great, but the colors were really "loud" on my face. The frames are a vibrant pink, the warm yellow isn't something I would normally wear.

#3/4 With flash. Too dark for me, what about the shape?

#5/6 With flash. I love the shape, but too dark again. It actually isn't black but a very dark green.

#7/8 With flash. Do they droop? I wasn't sure, but the colors were simply gorgeous! The pic doesn't do the colors justice. On the outside was a beautiful coral and on the inside was a nice rosé. I simply loved them on me colorwise.

#9/10 With flash. Do they droop? I really liked the color of these (not so brown, more reddish/pinkish) and the color gradient is lovely. Not sure about the shape.

#11 What I wore today.

Please help me? I'm getting the feeling I have a weird face shape. Or do all the people wear the wrong frames?

I really like 1/2. 3/4 is wonderful, but the color could be lighter. Could they order that for you?

I like #5 from the front but not sure on the thin arms from teh side (6). I like #10 from the side view but not as much from the the front (9) as #5. A lot of help I am, huh?

I like #5 best. Out of curiosity: any reason you're just looking at plastic frames? I just bought a second pair of frames, and they're the first wirerims I've had in... a decade, maybe? I still like the plastic ones, but I was really surprised by how much quieter a soft gold pair was on my face.

Scarlet, I'm not sure, I would have to ask. I have the brand written down, I'll try if I can find out if these ones exist in another color online. I'm still not sure if the first ones aren't too much for my features.

Mo, I probably won't get #5 because they are too dark, but I thought the shape was great. I like the shape better than #9, too.

Di, I don't like the (I don't know the English term) things on the nose you have with every wirerim. Do you know what I mean? I had them before and they drove me crazy. After my last pair that didn't have them was so comfortable, I said I wouldn't go back to them. The specs would always slide down my nose and when I wanted them to stay put I had to tighten the "things" so much up that I had marks on my skin! Although you are right, I like the look of wirerims and I think it would be easier to find some that fit.

I think the shape of 5 is very good too, but I also find the color too harsh. Besides that for some reason I like the wider sides in 1-4. It looks more modern to me, but that might just be my opinion. I think your features can carry 1, but I can understand if it just doesn't feel like you. The word you were looking for is nose pads, by the way. I am paying a lot of attention to these threads because I am thinking of looking for glasses soon too. Thanks for sharing your search.

Yes, I think many modern frames have the wide sides, it's more space to place color or pattern on! I think #1 is actually okay in the picture, but in the mirror I had the feeling that my whole face was made up of the frames. Thanks for the term, nose pads were what I was talking about. Do you need specs for the first time or will you wear them instead of contacts? I'm glad to share my search here, because I get so much help out of it. I wouldn't have known what to look for on my own!

I *really* like #5... are you sure the color is too harsh? It doesn't appear too harsh in the picture... but I know the coloring in pictures can be deceiving.
I think #5 works so well because you still have the general square shape of the plastic frames, but the edges are ever so rounded to soften them on your face.

I wear specs most of the time for distance. I actually hate glasses with a passion--it feels like something between me and the world--but I can't tolerate contacts unfortunately. I think I could learn to tolerate glasses better though and to incorporate them into my look better. I am glad that you are carefully choosing yours. Considering how much time they will spend on your face presenting you to the world, it is really the first thing to get right.

The shape of #5 is my favorite, hands down. Angie posted about how to find specs awhile back, and one of the key points is to find frames that graduate up at the ends of the lenses instead of drooping down.
It amazed me how quickly I was able to select my perfect frames after that.
You look much younger and "fresher" with those on than any of the others, even though I do like some of the other colors. The Pradas are fun, and I actually ended up with Pradas, but mine tip up as opposed to down.
Does that make sense at all?

I don't actually think it's too dark, but perhaps you could check to see if it comes in another color? Sometimes they don't have all the colors in the shop.

Yes, I thought the shape of #5 was the best too. I had the feeling they were a little bit too harsh when I looked in the mirror. They looked like solid black! I'm going to ask if they could order them in another color, maybe I'm lucky.

Sarah, I read the blog post and I know that the shape on #5 is the best, but there are almost no frames in the stores here with that shape! They are all straight or drooping down. I had a hard time finding these.

You know, I hope you don't mind my suggesting it, but an option would be to touch up your brows a little with a slightly darker powder, and then the no. 5 frames would go with the natural frame to your eyes. Just a thought. I know not everyone feels good in make-up, and you can also be fab without.

No, no problem with the suggestion. This could probably work to lessen the contrast, but I wear no make-up besides mascara and sometimes lipstick and I don't think I want to start with it now.

I know how hard this can be. A few years back Angie wrote on this and I followed the direction with me as I shopped. On you I like # 1 and 3 the best. The red is oh, so nice and unexpected, fun! 3 is a little more conservative and compliment you well. Too bad they aren't running BOGO!

I'm curious about these hip frames you refer to :).....Were they more rounded, less rectangular? Did you try any of them on, even for kicks? Out of these, 5 is my favorite.

Jonesy, I mean something like the ones below. They were often also less rectangular (and more extrem!) and either in black or solid vibrant colors. Main attribute was the big vertical height. I tried them on, I really tried everything, but they were so big they covered half of my cheeks!

I'm going to the store tomorrow and ask if #5 is available in another color.

Thanks, Angie! Do you like the color, too? I know that it looks like I'm glowing in the pic, but that's because of the flash. I'm not sure if it isn't too harsh for me colorwise. Should I take this one if they have no other colors?

I really like #5. Actually, the ones I like the least on you are the red ones. Besides, you say #5 are green, which would match your beautiful eyes so well! Oh well, I had to compliment you on your gorgeous eyes one way or another and that's the best I came up with lol

Thanks, airin! Although they are really a dark green, they look like black from afar.

I went into the store on my way home from Uni and asked about the frames. They are available in one other color and they even had them there (I just didn't see it). The SA called it "Havanna", it's brown with yellow spots. You probably know what I mean. It's a warm color and I would have never thought to wear brown specs, but it is much softer on my features and not as harsh as the black frames. Both frames are earmarked for me until Monday. Because I came from Uni I didn't have my camera with me, but I will go back this afternoon and take some pics for comparison.

Okay, here are the pics, this time without flash. Now you can see what a difference the flash makes! And the shape looks also a bit different from the first pic, I think one SA zoomed and the other didn't (meaning the first one was taken with wide angle). I liked it better in the first pic. These are the same frames though, I promise!

I'm not sure this is it yet. If I look at these pics, I think that both colors aren't really perfect for me. I think I need something softer. Any thoughts?

Edit: I just took a second look, are these wide enough? They look a bit too narrow.

honestly, I think both of these colors are great. In fact, I kindof want to say that I prefer the color of the first pair... are those blue? I don't think they are too narrow. i think these are perfect for your face.

No, these are the #5 frames from above in black. Just not photographed with the flash, makes all the difference in how the colors are perceived. Maybe I just have to get used to the look...

Edit: Now that you say it, they look a bit blueish in this pic.

I actually like the tortoise shell (that's what we call that pattern), but that is my favorite for glasses.

You don't think this warm toned specs would look strange with the cool tones of my wardrobe? If I get the tortoise shell specs, I would have really "classic" looking frames. I think that would be the first time I had specs that were so unostentatious.

I love them! I'm so glad you check on other colors. The golden tones pick up the warm tones in your hair, and they'll be neutral enough to wear with everything.
