Please educate me re: nude heels... I need shoe help

Bear with me... I haven't bought a pump style shoe for at least 10 years. I need some nude heels and while I'm not quite ready to buy, I'd like to have an idea what I'm looking for. I need something that will look good for around 5 years or so, if possible. They won't get a ton of wear so they should last that long. I don't want something so trendy that I'll need to replace them next spring. But I don't want to look like I borrowed my grandma's shoes either.

My heel limit is about 2.5 inches.

I like the Nine West the best due to the low vamp. The higher vamps look a bit stodgier to me. But I would caution against trying to find your perfect nude color online. I browsed the shoe racks just to test out colors last trip to Tampa Nordie's with the BF and none of them looked right with my coloring

Ah.... so maybe I need to get myself to a Macy's or other store I have within an hour of me and see what I find. I'm happy to do that as soon as I have more info in my head about what style would work.

I have one pair, the Tsubo Acreas in nude (or nude for me!). They are all I ever need for a nude heel and are super comfortable. On sale at Zappos!

Any chance a wedge would work for you? I can't seem to link to it right now but I really like the Calvin Klein Women's Saxton Wedge Pump. I find wedges more comfortable than pumps and the style is not so fussy or dressy. This is my favorite style of "nude" shoe, I wear them with tapered cropped jeans, skinnies, skirts and dresses. My pumps feel really dressy, I tend to only wear them when I'm really dressed up, and that simply doesn't happen that often. A low contrast neutral like gold, silver, taupe, beige or gray can work as a nude. Don't limit yourself to just pumps labeled "nude." How are you planning to wear them?

I plan to wear them mostly with skirts and dresses. They'll probably get worn to church some and to events like weddings and funerals. They don't need to be super dressy, but dressy enough for those types of things. I really can't see putting them on to go to the grocery store or Boy Scouts.

Matching a nude shoe to my feet might be interesting because I have very pale skin.

I like it when the "nude" is a little darker than your natural skin tone. I think it looks kind of weird when they match your own skin tone too perfectly, like you forgot to put on shoes.... I wouldn't worry about trying to match super exactly. They will look pretty as long as they are a low contrast with your leg line.

I would go with the Nine West pair. They are pretty classic in style and not too high of a heel. The Trotters look a little like "grandma" shoes IMO, and the t-strap might not be as versatile as you need for a basic pair.

I agree that the Nine West is more up to date and flattering with a lower vamp. Also, I have several "blush" colored shoes and they are perfect as a "warmer nude" that truly go with everything! The pair I love most is a low heeled sandal in blush but I also have these (and they are Nine West, too). Very comfortable and the tint is so pretty. Nude does not just have to be a pale beige color---maybe a "natural" colored leather would suit you more so I would suggest browsing the shoe dept to get a broader look at what constitutes a nude. I'm liking those snake skin wedges that Modgirl posted. Would they go with a navy/white polka dot dress? I have some solid colored dresses I think they would go with fine, but I haven't had anything snake skin before so this is new to me.

My taupe booties are very faintly snakeskin patterned and I treat them as neutrals to pair with prints and colors

Those Leo's are character heels meant for dancers or actors, not regular shoes. The Trotters look a little old lady to me.
I also think that finding the right colors is tricky, and I'd advise a style like the 9 West, but trying them on in person.

Brenda, I think you should definitely try on a bunch of options before deciding. You may decide you want a true nude shoe, or you may decide that you will go with something that works as a nude (i.e. an animal print, a yellow, a blush, a light taupe). You may discover (as I have) that in a lighter colour, your shorter legs can tolerate a higher vamp. Or you may find (because you have dark hair) that lighter coloured shoe isn't the best, given the outfits you're planning. I'd go with an open mind and see what results. And good luck!!

I like the Nine West too. I also agree that it might be better to go slightly darker and warmer than your skin tone. I don't own a single pair of pumps either so I will be watching this thread.

The Leo ones are really meant for dancing. The leather sole wears out quite quickly on pavement walk. The Nine West one look very current and classic .

You all are more observant than me. I hadn't even noticed that the Leos are dancing shoes. [blushing]

I'm glad the Nine West ones meet with approval. Those and the cute wedges give me a good place to start.

I'm open to other suggestions if anyone has any.

Another vote for the Nine West pair. They look the most modern of the 3. I think trying some on in person is a good idea, to see what you like on your foot.

I also like the Nine Wests. The others do verge on grandmotherly to me.

A thought re the light skin: I too have light skin, and no true nude shoes (weird, right?). I have a few almost-nude shoes that behave almost the same a proper nude would: dove gray pumps, ivory booties, tan+metallic sandals, cream snakeskin. If you are unable to find a "classic nude" shade, you could also look for an "almost nude" shade/print.

The Tsubo Acrea is at or close to a 4" heel if I recall correctly, alaskagirl. I really like the design but that put me off when I looked into them.

Just thought I would share them with you. The only drawback with these is with the peep toe, they are not winter shoes around here. I can't wait to start wearing them again in the spring.

I much prefer the Nine West style, seems more youthful and versatile to me. Good luck, it's a tall order finding the right heel.
