Many of you have followed along on my hair transformation and I have benefited from your comments and support. As I transitioned to gray hair, we used toner to keep brassiness at bay. Over time we used less and less toner. Discovery: the toned sections were the places that would turn brassy and purple hair products dimmed the discoloration, but did not erase it. Most of the toner had been applied in the back and underneath layers.
In January we decided to quit the toner. In May we cut quite a bit of length and were able to remove sections of toner. I wanted to keep as much length as possible, to be able to put my hair up in a ponytail, in anticipation of lake days. I still have some toned sections that need to grow out or be cut. The toned sections are kind of a russet color and if better blended, I would not mind it as much. However, the sections are in chunks and I can no longer stand knowing they are there. They begin at the occipital bone.
I have an appointment next week and will be keeping my hair natural in terms of color and wave/ curl. to get rid of the toned sections, I need to sacrifice some length. My stylist is going to give me a clarifying treatment to make sure we have removed as much build up and residue as possible. We will make a decision about the cut when we see how my hair looks.
For lake days of swimming and water activities, it is important to me that I am able to pull the front sections of hair up and off my face, so I will need to keep some length there. Then, what to do with the sides and back? I’m thinking perhaps an angled bob that could be worn smooth or wavy. I wonder if the back will need to be stacked, to get rid of the discoloration? I am open to other cut suggestions and welcome yours. Inspiration pictures are welcome, too.
