I actually kind of like it, as long as the plaids mirror each other well. My much bigger concern is whether the plaids from each side of the shirt match up -- I was so disappointed in the Treasure & Bond shirt from NAS for that reason!

I'm OK with it although to be honest I prefer no pockets at all for myself. (On all shirts, not just plaid ones.) Because of my short-waistedness, breast pockets always seem to hit at an odd, too-low spot, especially if I do any sort of tucking.

Janet, the Treasure & Bond plaid shirts from Nordies are DIVINE. Gorgeous quality and topstitching. I guess I am unfazed by checks that do not match up on a casual shirt at the side seams - especially if it's a small check. A skirt or pair of trousers is different.

Interesting. Where the plaid of the pocket is placed on the diagonal, I do not like it. It calls too much attention to one's breasts for my liking. But, where the plaid seem to be turned 90 degrees--or just placed off-kilter, I kind of like it.

I'm with Diana, and prefer no pockets on the front of my button downs. They never seem to hit right, or in an attractive way.

Interesting. It's bugging me on the two Vans shirts - because the pockets are obvious and placed right over the model's breasts. Too much "look at this" going on . On the other three shirts, the pockets are up a tad higher, which is somehow more flattering and "lifting" if you know what I mean. This is so awkward, sorry. For me, it sounds like a case-by-case situation.

If I owned that Burberry shirt I would be having an 11/10 day, instead of the 10/10 one I am experiencing

Oh how interesting! I don't mind about side seams, but I want the plaids to match in the front. Angie, so the mismatched plaid on the first shirt in my thread here doesn't bother you?

I just couldn't get past it. Maybe because my body is so asymmetrical, I'm more sensitive to it. Otherwise I loved that shirt.

It doesn't bother me at all, in fact I like the bias pockets.
I do insist on matched plaids at the front seams. I strongly prefer them to be matched well at the side seams, too, although it's not as critical.
In general, though, I'm not a big plaid shirt person.

I like these examples and think they look great! These are all intentional and you can tell. My irritation comes from the poorly constructed shirts where one side of the pocket lines up and the other does not or one pocket looks different from the other. Lots of plaid shirt love from me!

Aha, ladies. Good to know. I don't mind bias pocket checks either, as long as they aren't too large - the pockets or the checks. I ALSO prefer the pockets to be placed higher on the bodice in general. That way, they don't fight with your bosom - and to Diana's point, better for short waisted gals.

The first three pictured, where the pockets are cut on the bias, look fine to me. They look intentional. The next two look like whoever made them didn't know what they were doing. I like it when the plaid is matched so well that the pocket disappears. I also like the plaid to match at the side seam. When I sew, that's what I do. I do not like the Burberry at all.

To my eye, the Burberry is pretty close to perfect, and the Vans are too mismatched. The rest fall in between. But I'm not very RATE. And IRL they may all appear differently.

Don't laugh at me too much, but I think it only bothers me when the pockets don't mirror each other or the angle isn't a typical angle. So, a strong diagonal at 20 degrees would bug me. A strong diagonal at 45 degrees or 90 degrees would not. One pocket at 20 degrees and one at 45? I would run screaming from the store. I think the crispness of the angle contributes to the feeling of intentional or not intentional. I also think the scale of the pattern maters. I have a black and cream skirt that is mismatched on the sides. Normally that would bother me, but the pattern is a large diamond pattern and the black is very small in scale versus the cream background. Somehow the mismatch doesn't bother my eye. A pair of expensive trousers where the seams on the side (not over the rear, where the cut needs to go where the cut needs to go) don't match up would drive me bonkers. Mismatched glen plaid is banned!

I really like the last two examples where the mis-matched pockets add to the design. The others don't bother me.
ETA: is it best to have big pockets for big breasts to reduce the size contrast and little pockets that are smaller than small breasts to help them appear larger?

Well....I just went and checked my own plaid shirt and lo and behold, the patch pockets are placed on the diagonal! The are placed rather high, though, kind of on top of my chest--and certainly not over it. Funny how I hadn't even noticed my own shirt!

These look intentional to my eye as both pockets match each other. However, plaid in general not matching up bothers me. And I tend to avoid shirts with pockets anywhere near the bosom. But that is just a personal thing.

I prefer no pockets or the plaid perfectly matched so the pocket is not noticeable. Otherwise it looks poorly made to me (but mismatched patterns at the seams bothers me more than most people).

Well I guess I am in the minority but I really prefer my side seams and plaids to match. I don't love chest pockets on shirts unless they are bilateral and unobtrusive, personal bias - from princess matchy - matchy symmetry. Also I think it would make me uncomfortable with such an obvious pattern change as if I was broadcasting the message- "hey boys look here! right here!! Yup, small and perky for your delectation!!!" Too much like the positive "headlight" sign. I think the plaids are all so pretty but the pockets would be a deal breaker for me. But I'm weird that way.

Not a big fan of the mismatching. As others mentioned, I feel like it draws too much attention to the chest and it kind of hurts my eyes. But I'm very picky about stripes and patterns matching - I'll go though an entire stack of striped shirts to find the ones that latch closely enough at the shoulders to not bother me.

I like the Burberry, and the Treasure and Bond. I think it has more to do with the color than the pockets. Although I have a headache and from a distance those pockets make me dizzy! Too much movement for a Friday after work!
