One week to go before the next royal wedding. Let's speculate on what the bride will wear! Here is what I think:

1. dress - a traditional full skirted shape with a short sweep or chapel train (shorter than the Duchess of Cambridge's). 3/4 sleeves and a bateau or portrait neckline. I'll venture a smooth or lightly textured fabric vs lace, but with sparkle. I bet she will have pockets for something funky!

2. Hair - parted in the middle, low bun, long veil, Queen Mary's Fringe Tiara

3. Bouquet - peonies, roses, myrtle, heather medium to small cascade - white and pale pink/blush.

There is no maid of honour, but I'm thinking the child attendants will be in white with pink/blush accents, and Prince Harry will be in a morning suit vs uniform. Pastels will dominate amongst the female guests (vs bold colours and brights) with small fun hats vs big brimmed jobbies.

I cannot venture a guess, but I am so excited!!!!!!!!! If at all possible, it is my goal to watch in real time.

I generally agree with your Megan predictions but not anything funky or edgy. That may be part of her personal style but this is a royal wedding and my bet is she'll go full--on traditional but very modern. I'm expecting Harry in a uniform, he's proud of his military service and wearing it for one's wedding is a tradition for sons of queens.

Carla, you have thought of a lot of details already, and you might be perfectly right in most cases.

Traditionally, it seems to have been an unwritten rule that royal wedding gowns should have LONG sleeves. However, in recent years we have seen some royal brides in short-sleeved gowns, especially in summer. So we'll see what Rachel Meghan Markle chooses ...

In general, I expect her wedding gown to be traditional-- long, white, and with veil and train. I guess, however, that it will not be full-skirted, but rather simple and slim and have one or more surprising or unusual elements, as she seems to be a fun, relaxed and confident woman.

Prince Henry (Harry) is fun, too, so I hope they will have a fun and happy wedding, not too restricted by traditional royal British rules.

I think Meghan will wear a simple dress, with beading, princess line, and I agree bateau neck. I feel blush will feature for the flower girls.

My friend is having a party and we will watch on TV. We are wearing bridesmaids dresses - for William and Kate's wedding we wore wedding dresses if we had them....and they fitted... it is late Sat night here so perfect for a party.

I think MM is not as restricted by protocol as Kate was (not marrying the future king), so I think it will be less traditional than Kate’s dress. I am sure it will be lovely.

I predict Harry will wear a uniform. I like your predictions for MM, Carla. Mr SF is going to watch in real time. He has it on his calendar. I may try to but I am just as happy to watch it at a later date.

FWIW, the reason I am going for morning suit for Harry is because generally weddings at St. George's chapel at Windsor are less formal (all previous weddings there the grooms wore morning suits). Also, though Harry is very proud of his service, he may not want to pick one service group over another. Furthermore, he is no longer in service and any role is ceremonial in nature. Other then family and friends, a lot of 'regular folks' and individuals from the charities (many mental health) will be there. (If he is in uniform, his friends and family would be required to wear uniforms as well.).

That is why I think there will be colour (pink or blush) as well. Though Diana and Catherine had all white arrangements, Sarah Ferguson had yellow (Mountbatten Roses) in her bouquet and yellow sashes on the little girls.

I am certainly interested in other opinions and I'm pretty sure MM has all the savey and professional guidance to ensure appropriateness/respect for tradition as well as what will look good on television, in print, and for posterity!

I am working a repair cafe on Saturday so I will get to see it in part and have to tape the rest. A fashion extravaganza!
I think she will do a nod to her US roots -I agree with a dress closer to your second pick as I told a friend I thought she would go with a dress modified for royal wedding(sleeves) but similar in style to what Carolyn Bessette Kennedy wore when she married JFK Jr.
I think she will also do some kind of nod to Canada- her second home while working....what I don't know. maybe Trillium ( national flower?) or maple leaves in bouquet???
I know nothing of tiaras but it would not surprise me if it was a Spencer family tiara since Harry has made it clear that Mom's family would be invited.
I think H &M luck out and now being 5th in line- protocol can be more relaxed. So maybe he will be in regular duds but with military escort.

I just think it is cool having a YLF Friend having a cousin who will be the official photographer for the wedding!!!! For any of you that missed it- check Utahdesert post in off topic.

I love Royal Weddings! We had the most fantastic day out watching the Kate and Wills wedding, we found a great spot by the Cenotaph on Whitehall - I sat on large stone block with a Canadian mother, daughter and grand daughter trio. Sang along to the hymns, cheered, waved, all of that! DS sat on DH shoulders. Loved it! We may go to Windsor for the day next weekend. I am so looking forward to it where ever we are!

I think your predictions are very good Carla, but I am hoping that H is in uniform. I hope that Prince Philip is there and in good form.

Just read that Meghan's favourite flowers are peonies, so there will probably be peonies in the church and (as as already predicted by you, Carla) also in her bouquet.

Also just read (in a Danish magazine about royals) that the wedding invitation requests male guests to wear "Uniform, Morning Coat or Lounge Suit", and female guests to wear "Day Dress with Hat". There was a photo of an invitation, where I was able to read the text. Unfortunately, I am not able to link to that page. But if you are interested, you might be able to find an invitation photo elsewhere.

However, as male guests are asked to wear uniforms (if they have), I bet Harry, too, will wear a uniform. Guests are not supposed to be more elegant than the groom and bride.

Jane - What fun! I hope the day is gloriousl - for the wedding party, but for the spectators as well. Oh! And Eugenie's next. I would love if she wore Vivienne Westwood.

I know, efbgen! I've got my outfit ready (see below). I've always loved the pistachio dress Jackie O wore to Caroline's wedding.

On the news they said Harry’s fellow army mates from Afghanistan (?) will be wearing red coats, so I think he will too. Meghan will not be wearing the pictured tiara as it is too much, plus I think QE wears it from time to time (if not that one, then one like it). If she wears one, it will be small and simple. Beyond that, I’m clueless.

I *think* Harry will have to be in uniform. I did hear that William wanted to wear a different uniform in his wedding but had to go with the higher rank/more prestigious one. (I can't remember where I saw this discussion, sorry!)

1. I think Meghan will be rather more sleek and clean in outline, less fluffy. Maybe beading instead of lace, or simply satin. I'm not sure there's actual restrictions on the sleeves, but I agree she will have them. I think it will be full length, with a train, but not necessarily a very large skirt.

2. I really hope her hair is up and neat; the wind at the chapel can be pretty impressive. She's favored artistic loose bits in the past that look fine indoors but would be more than a nuisance in the wind! I'm expecting a rather shorter than longer veil, and I cast my vote for one of Queen Mary's bandeaux tiaras: either the Lozenge, or the Marie Feodorovna Sapphire. It's a big unknown if either is even still available, since neither has been seen since a young Margaret wore them. They may have been loaned, or they may have been gifts and now belong to her descendants.

Alternatively, I would not be surprised if she had something newly-bought or created from existing pieces. That has been the British Royal Family tradition for brides who are not in the direct line, like Sophie and Sarah and even Margaret herself. Meghan will have many tiara-wearing opportunities and will really need to have at least one at her disposal; it would be nice if she owns her wedding tiara instead of having a lifetime loan.

3. Bouquet. No idea! I don't pay much attention to wedding flowers.

I'm going to a wedding myself that day, in a different city, so I'll be too busy sightseeing with family to watch or pick apart the clothes that day. I'm also interested to see which title they receive, too.

Haven't the foggiest, but I am sure she will look spectacular, and will somehow manage to tick all the required traditional boxes while adding something unexpected and modern and subtly envelope-pushing, as seems to be her strength!

Of course I also can't wait to see what the lovely Kate will wear.
