Pim and Larkin Coat Fit Question

I would like your opinion on how this Pim and Larkin coat fits. It closes easily, and although I think it looks loose fitting, it's not. A size smaller would definitely be too small. I think the shoulder seam placement is right where it should be, but I do think the sleeves are long. I could alter them, but it would be a royal pain as there is a cute cuff-thing that I would have to move. Do the sleeves look too long, or OK where they're at? I don't know that I think it does my body shape any favors, but I do think it's a cute coat - plus I haven't styled or ironed it yet.

Edit: Beverly Like Hills wore it as an inside coat, like a blazer. Should I? Or do you think this would better suit me as an outside spring coat?

I think it fits. I don't think as a topper those sleeves are too long. Is it a spring coat? If so you could scrunch them. If it is a Fall coat leave them long.

Elle, on the blog Beverly Like Hills, she wore it as an inside coat, like a blazer. I was planning on wearing it like that, like a blazer.

Cute coat. It looks a little too big in the underarm to waist area & the sleeves look too wide imo.

I have this coat also, Karie. I know what you mean about the fit. For me, I find myself struggling a bit with the combo of the print and wider jacket shape, yet I think it could be fun for a change properly styled. I'd be eager to hear what works for you.

We may be a similar size and while I haven't worn it yet, I was thinking it might be best over slim/straight leg pants, perhaps with a pop of spring color in the bag. I'll have to experiment. I like the idea of a longer blazer, but I would not be comfortable wearing this indoors for long, due to the bulkiness.

I am 5'7" and find the sleeves longish, but workable. While the fringed cuffs are cute, I wonder about how the sleeves would look tapered, a bit shorter and without the cuff. I find there is enough going on with the pattern that perhaps I wouldn't miss them. I also think the shape of the coat could make it tricky to make the sleeves too narrow, so I am not sorted with this piece yet.

I'd love to see your ideas. Still too cold for me to have tried much, but I'll let you know if inspiration strikes.

Eliza, I was also thinking it would look best over slim pants. That's a good idea about just leaving the cuff off. Also true that since the coat is shaped wide, the sleeves should be left that way - to make them narrow would probably look odd. I was wondering if just shortening them would would visually solve the problem - do too long sleeves tend to make a garment look too big overall?

I have to say I am not totally sold on it. It looks like ti fits through the shoulders but is too big in the body. Maybe this is part of the oversized trend?

It's a retro Mod cut and fits just how it's supposed to. It's not the easiest to style without your go go boots though - do you love it Karie?

Angie, I do love it - the 'retro mod' vibe is what attracted me to it! I was planning on styling it with slim fit pants and black booties - I haven't had go-go boots since I was 8 (they were white and they were fab)!

Karie- Just checked the blog you mentioned. The sleeves are shorter on her; seems to make for a more tailored look. In one set of photos, she just buttons the top button and it looks great. The coat looks more shaped on her than on me. I like the room across my shoulders though, and also want space for a thin sweater. Tricky, but compelling.

Angie- thanks for reminding me of the context. I was drawn to that retro vibe also, but the shape is requiring some effort. My eye is also not used to thar volume of pattern. I will start playing with it and see where I land.

Karie, I have been looking forward to seeing this on you. I love it! I think it fits as it should and I would wear it as an indoor jacket. I love the way Beverley wears hers and I think it will look equally fab in your ensembles.

Aren't go-go boots almost knee height? How about cream booties, I think those might look nice with the coat.

I really like it on you, the sleeves look fine to me. I would wear it with skinny jeans or pants and a simple dark top, then leave the coat open. You could keep it on inside. In sum, I would keep the outfit very simple, monochromatic so the coat takes center stage.

Yes, the coat definitely needs to take center stage. I was originally thinking to wear black or dark navy skinnies, now I'm thinking about cream / white skinnies and light booties. Hummmm....

Hi Karie,
The coat looks great. I've worn the coat with jeans, black skinnies, leggings/ballet flats, and red cropped pants. Whatever I wear with it, the coat always takes center stage. It definitely has a retro look and fit, however, that's what makes the coat such a stand out. I like all the styling suggestions people have written here. I will need to use them. Enjoy the coat!
