Piles of pearls - YouLookFab Forum

Yesterday in between snow shoveling and other storm-related and work tasks, I took a little time to pull out a bunch of different necklaces to try piling on with all the different pearls I posted the other day. This is just a start since I have a lot of jewelry -- statement necklaces, strands of beads, pieces inherited, etc. But I thought I'd snap some photos as I just threw various things on. Some are more successful, some definitely less so, but I thought I'd post them for fun. I won't say which are my favorite until I hear from you all. Do any of these combinations work to your eye? Just playing a bit. It was kind of fun and made me reevaluate some other neglected pieces in my jewelry collection. I'm seeing more options in layering than in some pieces when simply worn alone.

PS The last photo is a pearl necklace gift from my husband I almost forgot about! A very long strand of pearls knotted on a fine cord. It's delicate, so I don't think layering with other pieces is the way to go, but I'm enjoying the look of delicate jewelry these days, so I'll have to make an effort to wear this piece more.

I am not a necklace wearer so can't constructively comment, except to say that I prefer the more closely related juxtapositions like #10 and 16 to the I am just blindly wearing 2 necklaces at once looks

I like 17, 18 and 22. I love to layer..what I look for and like best is when the things have a lot in common with each other, a reason for being together. So for me, the 9 thru 16 pictures don't work as well.

Oh, my gosh. I'm so impressed. Your artist's eye is very apparent here, Janet. You could wear any of these out of the house. My personal favorites are 2, 10, 16, 6, and 18!

I love #18, but also think there is something exciting about 4, 5, 6, 8, and 13. What a fun photo shoot!

Wow! You have a lot to choose from. I really like 8. Something about the dark colors. 23 is really lovely. So many other combos are nice I couldn't choose.

I love all of them. Good eye. They are all beautiful. I wonder about trying the turquoise piece in #4 with shorter layering pearl necklace. Not too short. Just to close the gap a bit.

Oooh, there are a lot of good ones here, Janet (I'm especially liking 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 21 and 22. 16 is fun in a maximal way too, and the delicate strand on its own is lovely too.)
Isn't it exciting to know that there are plenty more options "waiting for you" because you have all your other fabulous jewellery to create lots of other pearl combinations. (Fun to see the visuals in your other thread have inspired you;-)

On a far more pedestrian note, Janet, I'm dying to know how you store your jewelry collection? It seems sizable, and I'm (still) obsessed with closet organization, so am wondering how you manage it.

What fun! Ilike the ones where the layers closely relate to each other length-wise. So my faves are 6, 11, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 21. Top 3: 11, 16, 19.

You should be a jewelry designer. I especially like 13, 16 & 18, but each version has it's charms. I'd play more with the shell piece in 5, maybe even attaching the shell to a string or two of pearls or arranging it to be surrounded with pearls.

I think you've done a great job with layering your necklaces. I have lots of jewelry (mostly costume) and I have a really hard time layering. It just never seems to work for me so I'm in awe of your skills here.

Thanks, all! I'm in the midst of a project right now so I'll chime back in more later, but this has been fun to see what you all think.

The shell necklace was a gift from hubs when we were in Barcelona, and it's adjustable -- you can slide the wood pieces around on the cord to make it whatever length you like -- I feel like the color and luster in the shell could make it work well with the pearls, if I found the right configuration.

My favorites were 11, 13, 16, 17, and 18.I tend to like the looks in which the pieces read more as a single statement than separate strands, IYKWIM.

18, 20 and 21 are my picks. I think I've commented before that I like "organized chaos" and those seem to best fit that bill.

Beautiful combinations! Hard to pick, but my favorites are 1, 8, and 13.

So many combinations, and so difficult to choose! I think I liked #2 the best--my eye stayed on that photo longer than the others. That said, you have such fabulous options.

I meant to comment in your previous thread, where you said you had a collection of pearls but didn't know what was real. It's worth bringing them to a jeweler, because real pearls need exposure to moisture, and should be worn. Otherwise, they start to dry out and crack.

I tend to like the simpler combinations best: 2,8,17,23.
I also love the necklace made from circles in #9 and the black/silver/gold one in #17 ... and likewise the combinations with those.

What a fun exercise!
I definitely like the longer silhouettes.

You have some amazing pieces there, Janet. The blue (I know next to nothing about stones) in 4 is a gorgeous piece and I really love 16.

I like #18 but it is really hard for me to judge with just a close up, I think it depends on the whole look. Bring them on!

Hmm, it's very difficult to chose a fave as all are great ideeas, and can work on different outfits but the only one I don't really like is nr.4.

What a fun project!

Oh, and you can tell whether pearls are real by rubbing them against the flat part of your front teeth. A real pearl will feel a bit gritty, and fakes will feel perfectly smooth.
