Pigtails at 25

I wore my hair in pigtails today, and even though this will no longer be possible pretty soon, I was just curious to get people's opinion. Honestly, I thought they looked pretty cute without being cutesy. I wore them low and more towards the back of my head, so they didn't look too little girlish. The result was that my hair curled up along my shoulder and flipped out in all different directions. Do you think I'm too old for this? How old is too old?

I love that look! You are a graphic designer, for goodness sake! You should absolutely be able to wear a fun, young, creative look like that. I bet you looked adorable.

12. I think 12 is too old for pigtails.

Of course I am joking. However, if you want to project an effortlessly sophisticated style, it would probably be better to avoid pigtails.

I would like a picture to really tell but it seems to me that you could pull it off. I like the idea and I do not think that you are too old.

Well, I'm in my PJ's and the pigtails are gone. I can replicate it tomorrow, but I was mostly asking as a general question. I know they look good already so I'm not seeking opinions on that (though I guess I could post pics anyway). I'm just not sure if they're appropriate.

I might put off my haircut until it starts to heat up a little, but only if they get the thumbs up. It's something new I discovered when my hair looked horrible this morning and I just didn't know what else to do. Later on in the day, I realized that I actually really liked them and might want to enjoy them a little longer.

It's funny--I just had a conversation about this today. I definitely don't think that 25 is too old for pigtails. I still wear them sometimes, and I'm 31. Someone I was talking to today is in her late 30s and she said she wears them occasionally as well. I think it all comes down to how you wear them and your personal style.

It's not a look one can pull off with stilettos and a sleek outfit, but there are instances when it works and can be cute. Plus, they are convenient because you can have your hair pulled out of the way without having a ponytail dig into the back of your head every time you lead back.

That's exactly the way I wore mine to the gym when I was 21-23. I had layered short hair and it was easier to make two pigtails than one ponytail. (plus it's hard to do certain exercises when there's a ponytail digging into the back of your head). Looking back on it, I have no idea whether it looked ridiculous or not. I have a young face, so I probably looked extra perky. Yikes. I prefer not to think about it too much now.

I wouldn't do it now that my hair is longer. But I'm tempted sometimes

Hmm, I maybe totally wrong, I think I remember a pic of Angie with short pigtails. It was in the Rosie and Jasmine slide show.

(Ha! Lena - you are SPOT ON. Well done for remembering. I was 29 back then and it was a casual Sunday at home with our new puppies).

So to answer your quezzie Maya. I think that pigtails at 25 are fine, especially if you are in a creative field. I have a documentary producer friend who wears two little buns on the side of her head and she looks fabulous. Better than Princess Leia. And she's 39.

I wear them sometimes when I'm playing with my boys at the park & it's hot & I'm dressed casually. My straw hat fits better over two low pigtails than over one ponytail. I'm 33 & have curly hair, and I think it's cute, but I wouldn't wear them at all when I'll be with mostly adults.

Hey I wear pigtails sometimes and I'm 40. Granted, I wear them when most people would wear a ponytail--like exercising, going to the beach, or any event that I'd be wearing a cap. I even found a photo...

I too occasionally wear pigtails for excercisng.

They can be a cute look. I wouldn't have worn them at 25 to work. but then I had a baby face and was in a very conservative office and trying to differentiate myself from the student part timers, so I went in for french rolls!
Your casual office attire in a creative field is a completely different situation and sounds like it could be fine
