Piggyback on the slipdress question

I found a halter dress I really love. However, I would need the dreaded strapless bra, which typically falls down to my waist when I wear it! I had an idea of wearing a Bandeau style bra (which may stay up better with my narrow frame) in a teal color, which would be very obvious and purposeful. The bandeau only shows on the sides because the dress is well lined. However, if my bra is going to show, I think it should look deliberate, right? What do you think? Should I pass on this style of dress because of the bra issue or should I try to make it work in a creative way?

The color is lovely but where are you going to wear this dress? It doesn't seem likely that you would want a bra/bandeau showing at wirk or a special occasion. Would you wear it as a beach cover-up? Then your swim top could show. It sounds like too much work to me. How about looking for a halter style? Then you could have the bare shoulders and wear a halter style bra.

I know Joy, I am making up reasons to wear this dress! Dinner at the restaurant by the lake on Saturday night is the best one. Fresh air theatre in the summer is another. Its hard to say whether the bandeau bra would work in those settings. They are not formal situations. I like the idea of looking for a halter style dress instead. Maybe I could find one. DH really liked this dress. I should post a pic.

I have a couple of dresses with similar necklines to this. I wear a strapless bra and have little or no side bra showing.

I have a top like this which I wear with a cami underneath - mine is see through and my tummy is not my best feature so I am more self conscious about showing that, than my bra:)

For casual summer dinners or lunches, BBQs etc I would totally show a little coloured bra or bandeau top, either matching or contrasting. I would not for work or a formal dinner or wedding. I would not choose a nude colour but either sharp white or teal or coral.

Personally, I would feel less than fab wearing a bra that showed with this dress. The dress has very clean lines and a pretty pattern, and I think that a visible bra would be a distraction. My recommendation would be to go to a reputable department store and have a knowledgeable salesperson help you with trying some strapless bras. I had a hard time with strapless bras until I found the right ones. Having strapless bras really opens up a lot more options for tops and dresses; I am so grateful to have mine in my wardrobe.

Sadie and Gigi, I have tried a lot of strapless bras but not the Calvin Klien! Funny that I haven't because that brand tends to work well for petite women. It comes in my size which many don't so I plan to stop at Macy's to see if it will work. I have been hopeful about a strapless bra before only to wear it for a few hours and then find it sliding so the real test won't be the department store try on, it will be at home! I agree however that if I could find one that works it would open up some options!

Seriously, I would try to maintain the look of the dress as- is if possible. Not even as keen on introducing a whole new color like teal, for this great tonal print in your soft corals.

Oh, gorgeous dress, and I think that halter neckline would look gorgeous on you. But I'd try to find a strapless bra that doesn't show. A Nordstrom SA gave me a tip on doubling up on the adhesive bras and that has worked for me, though I admit I still feel awkward without my full-on support armour given my age and bra size.

I am petite (on top) and have a lot of luck with Calvin Klein bras - so give that brand a try. I agree with others that I would try to maintain the clean lines of this dress if I were to wear it, because it is so light and pretty.

What about a regular nude bra with clear straps...they will be very subtle but will support well...
