Picture Perfect Challenge - 2024 Edition - Day 2

Our second inspo picture comes from the master of murder mystery, Agatha Christie.
I love murder mysteries. I like reading the books as well as watching TV adaptations.
For fans like me, Kenneth Branagh has recently adapted three of her Hercule Poirot books to screen: Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile and A Haunting in Venice. I enjoyed watching all of them.

I am big Agatha Christe fun too. Fun fact Murder on the Orient Express happens near my home town. But it is represented so geographically wrong in the movie - no mountains at all.

Work day today. I was trying to do red and yellow with a dark base, being me could not resist matching the shoes to the top though! Also I see in the pic the lipstick is not a perfect match.
I didn’t have a red and yellow top so the yellow is hinted at by the gold flecks in my earrings.
Tomorrow I might not have time to dress in theme- caring for Miss 2.5.
Oh, and we have seen both Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile- both fab. I had already read both books in the past though so knew who did the murder in each case already…

Today's picture reminded me to wear my balloon pants, which I haven't done in a while. They are very lightweight and not suitable for winter wear. I dug them up from the depths of my closet and lo and behold, they are not at all the right color, haha:) My memory did not serve me well. I went ahead and wore them anyway. My everyday bag suited today's inspiration very well, so I went ahead and added that for the picture. I am wearing a cropped black sweater over a V-neck black tshirt, but I removed the sweater about 5 minutes after leaving the house because it was too warm. I am sorry for the quality of the pictures. I am not used to mirror selfies.

I am also showing you a close-up of my jewelry. I am very into chunkier, silver pieces this year and I have built a nice collection. I combine them in different ways but still wear many big pieces together. You also get a bonus picture of Miss Leia.

Oddly enough without using this book's colours as an inspiration for an outfit, there's no way I would have put this colour combination together on my own. Its just not my typical colour palette, but I rather like it just the same.

Since the cover features lots of orange and yellow which I don't have much of, I decided to substitute cream instead. I also added this crochet style necklace because it has some orange, red and yellow in it as well.

Dark taupe wide leg trousers with a red cardigan and handbag and my tan sandals finish this outfit off.
Haha, the background also provides some additional yellow too.

I really struggled with this one, and this was the most successful (not very) outfit I came up with. I thought the colors were orange, black and green, for one thing, which might be the result of interpreting from my phone's screen. Not one for the ages!

This is a quick post and run since i need to get to an appointment but I will be back to comment on other outfits when I am able.

I went mostly with the colours, to the best of my ability. The sweater is the closest to orange red that I own, the scarf picks up the orange and yellow and also, in the paisley, the curving lines of the road, the charcoal trousers with their wide legs hint at the era (40s?....I have not read the book so so not know for sure but associate Agatha Christie for 30s to early 60s) and also the dark noir-ish vibe. And red shoes. Also red coat and red bag.

Also keeping it real photo as the emergency worker dispatched to the scene.

Jenni NZ - Love your obsession with matching your shoes with your top. Colours look just like the cover.
Bella- The colour of your balloon pants seems to match the curvy road on the cover and your sunglasses certainly add a mysterious Agatha Christie.component to your look
Roberta - I think your outfit looks terrific even if your monitor read it as having more green.

This one is fun because it pulls together a bunch of workhorse favorites: a red merino tank, my old Everlane square cardi, and my favorite pleated trousers. Docs because Agatha Christie’s from England!

My outfit is inspired by the colors of the cover. Dark olive pants, as in the border, black starry-night print tee to echo the firey sky and dark tones in the foreground, and more red in my sweater to evoke the sky. White or cream touches in the sweater, shoes, and watch pick up the title lettering.

I definitely wouldn't have come up with this outfit, without the challenge!

Bella, those pants are fantastic and somehow they seem like the perfect item, whether or not the colour fits! Sharing your love of chunkier jewellery. They say that the dainty stuff is still trending but I like the chunkier pieces best myself.

Ha ha Suz! BTW I am surprised you haven’t read the book. It’s one of her best known and it really is awesome, fantastic twists to it near the end. There was a really good TV programme of it too, possibly out of the UK? I can’t remember the name of the programme. You would love the fashion in it. Bella, I loved the fashion in those 2 movies I saw too- part of the pleasure in watching them, to me! Especially the dresses in the warmth of the Nile area.

PS I looked up the TV programme. And Then There Were None, BBC One originally, 2015. It’s a mini series. Highly recommend.

Oh, I used to love Agatha Christie when I was a kid! I'd go to the local library and check out 10 of her books at a time!

I feel like I"m on the same wavelength as Carla, although I don't have as perfectly perfect pieces as she does! I was pleased with the orangey-red sweater, though! I decided to go with dark gray for the pants, and bookend with red booties as a nod to the red in the author's name on the book cover.

The long twisty gold necklace is for the winding road up to the house in the picture. And although this particular book is a pocket book, not a Penguin Classic, I decided to bust out my new penguin necklace from our recent trip to Antarctica to stand in for the kangaroo at the very top of the picture!

I’m honoured to ‘twin’ with MsMary, and I want green sneakers like Bonnie, but most of all, I’m grateful to bella for organizing the challenge. April has started off rather dreary, but the challenge has motivated me to be a little more intentional - even if it’s just for casual days.

To my eye, today's and tomorrow's inspirations are both variations on black and red, which is 85% of my fall&winter wardrobe. So this was both easy, because I have so many pieces to choose from, and challenging, to not just repeat my usual winter outfits.

For this one, I could see the bit of green on the bottom half, but mostly it looked dark, so dark that no light can escape. So I chose these black wale-less corduroys, for the ultra-matte effect.

On top, I pulled from my red-sweater drawer one that wasn't too blue-red, or too warm for today's weather. I wanted the effect of the black birds against the red sky, so I was happy to come across this scarf. I think of it as a warm red, but if I'm honest, the colour is deep orange.

Funny, my eye didn't register the white letters as part of the picture at all; I passed over all the items with white in them.

I did a ponytail with a red tartan scrunchie that included a tiny yellow stripe. I couldn't see it, since it was behind my head all day.

These are all so fun.

Jenni, I *may* have read the book about 30 years ago. But you see, I have a very stupid and unfair prejudice against murder mysteries, mainly because my mother loved them and she used to sneer at my own reading tastes. It's extremely silly, and I know it -- one of my best friends is writing a mystery and Mr. Suz is an avid fan of them and I know many of them (including Agatha Christie's) are extremely well written. I *have*, however, watched a few of the movies.

Jaime, you are properly dressed for the warmer leg of the Orient Express tour!

Bonnie, you really nailed it -- the hat is fabulous!

Ms. Mary -- you look spectacular, and yes, you'd be a great partner for the dashing Carla. Carla, somehow the hat really adds to the outfit, just as with Bonnie's outfit!
