Hello,
Our first inspiration comes from the beloved book, Little Prince. Having been originally written in French and published in 1943, it has been translated into over 300 languages and dialects.

Fun personal fact: I own a neat little collection of translations. Some were gifted to me by friends and family, others I bought over the years during my travels for myself and later for my kid. Can you guess the languages?

How gorgeous! I can see French, German and Italian there but don’t know the others. Sorry for gatecrashing yesterday’s explanatory thread since it was 1 April already for me! But as it still is (it’s evening now) I will re-post my pics on this one.
This day was tricky as I don’t have much lilac in my wardrobe. But the book cover made me think of soft colours (and maybe soft pink and soft blue almost make lilac?!) plus sparkles, stars and flowers. So here you are. The pretty sandals and rings were just for the photo since we had a quiet at-home family day. Easter Monday is a public holiday in my country

I remember reading this little novella back in my high school french class

I decided to start with wide leg jeans and a tucked-in boxy short sleeve top for my interpretation. It brings in some white and attempts to mimic the little prince’s outfit on the cover.

The yellow silk scarf tied around my neck this way is my cliché reference to the french author as well as the yellow on the cover. Its the only yellow I have in my entire wardrobe. A gift I received decades ago.

I added the tan belt to finish the outfit because it has kind of a star motif on it and represents the stars on the cover.

I read it for the first time in my high school French class too! I can only guess a couple of the easy languages above, Italian and French of course. I became a little obsessed with the story, watched the movie, and read the book multiple times over the years. I saw an exhibit of the original illustrations in New York a few years ago, at the Morgan Library. Anyhoo, my outfit is really all about the colors and not the Prince's elegant style. Although I do think the socks are very appropriate.

Wow! You are a genuine collector, Bella! I don't have my outfit yet, because exercise class calls. And I can't guess all the languages, but I can identify French, Czech, German, Spanish, Danish (I think..), Turkish (maybe?), Italian. And if you speak all of these, plus the others, you are officially a genius!

Loving the interpretations so far, Jenni, Dee, Roberta! Fresh and light and sparkly is the theme of the day.

Okay, here's my version. I have to admit, I have only read the book once, back when I was in high school, and I was not a huge fan. Maybe it's time for a re-read!

Like Dee, I went with wide legs, to echo the prince pictured on the cover. I wore Breton stripes in honour of the French author. I wore a lilac-pink boxy cardigan to echo the colour on the cover, and my green ring for the greens there. Though it's a very different green, it feels planetary to me, somehow, and also spring-like.

The earrings, which might be hard to see, are my piece de resistance! Long ago a Fab friend gifted me these sparkly earrings as Secret Santa. Alas -- they broke! The little studs that anchored them to my ears fell off one and disappeared. So for years, I stopped wearing them, though I had always loved their subtle sparkle.

Well, today it occurred to me that I could McGiver my own studs, using my small pearl earrings and sticking the posts through the holes. It worked! Their shape and sparkle reminds me of the star/ meteor/ whatever it is the Prince stands upon.

Oh, and silver sneakers for additional night sky shine.

Last night I played around with Finds in order to put some outfits together, but my day (today) got sidetracked when I got a call from DS#1 at work when he discovered a tick lodged in his calf! Luckily our family clinic was able to slip him in and a nurse removed it. Prognosis is good due to early intervention - but I’m still feeling stressed!

Since I’d put some preliminary thought into what I was going to wear, I think I still met the challenge! I was going to swim, and then let my hair air dry so it would mimic the prince’s short hair - but that didn’t happen! As usual, I’m inspired by colour - so pastels. Yellow and green floral on cream hoodie and lilac spring coat.

I saw the all-green outfit of the little prince and thought of my green boilersuit. So here's my version: green boilersuit (Madewell), with cream t-shirt (NoBull), pewter booties (Mephisto), white watch (Tissot), hammered silver earrings.

I don't have any yellow, lilac, or stars in my wardrobe, so I took my inspiration from the little prince. My wide-leg pants closest to his in silhouette are crimson, not the light airy look I was going for, so I went with these stone coloured chinos. His belt and bow tie are darker, but I used those elements to bring in the pastels: pink scarf and turquoise-teal belt.

I'm loving seeing everyone's rendition. Thank you for reviving this, Bella.

What fun! I love the different ways the cover has been interpreted. I went straight for the color palette. I wouldn't have chosen the shoes without the bits of yellow on the cover, and maybe my hair is shaped a bit like the Little Prince's .

I was inspired, like many of you, by the lilac-white combo. I love this color combo and this outfit, too but to be honest, for me this outfit is seasonally confused. If the weather is good enough to wear a skirt with bare legs, I will probably want to wear a lighter top. On the other hand, if I am wearing a sweater, I will probably want to cover my legs as well (I wouldn't wear a white denim skirt with any kind of legwear, not even nude color nylons, I can't stand them). As I explained in Angie's spring vs. summer post, in my neck of the woods, this would be appropriate perhaps 2 days out of the year on the odd spring day. Good thing, though, that happens to be today

As for the books, yes, good guesses all around: I have the book in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Czech, Greek and Turkish. And no, I don't read all these languages, I just enjoy collecting the different translations.

Here’s mine! Originally thought I’d wear my light green gauze shirt for the colour, but with the thick cords (non-negotiable because silhouette!) it was just too seasonally confused, so I opted for an Oxford instead. Chose the boots simply because they’re the only shoes I like to pair with these trousers

Added a pale green scarf with dots that suggest stars if you squint, and a pale blue anorak. Turns out I have no lavender anymore!
