Pics of the winter coat I ordered (It didn't work out)

The winter coat arrived today and it didn't work out. Can you guess what happened? Right - the same problems as always occurred. The sleeves are too long and it's too big on top. The coat looked much more fit and flare on the website than it really is! The hips fit, but that's all that fits. I think I would really need a petite size with a big flare for a coat to work out, but this doesn't exist here...

Boo. I do wear petite sizes in many coats although I don't wear any other petite clothing at all. My trench yesterday was a petite. You don't have petite options?

What a shame! The colour looks really pretty, but the coat just swallows you up. At least you are still smiling in your photo! One good thing, spring will soon be here and you won't need to think about a coat for a while. I've been told that Berlin is such a creative city - aren't there any young designers who could make something nice for you? Or, are there any fashion schools - maybe one of the students there would create something special. After all, you are a student yourself, and you would be a good advertisment for a young designer.

Mo, there are no petite sizes in German stores at all! Sometimes you find petite sizes with pants and jeans, but even that doesn't happen often.

missvee, it really is funny how much bigger I look when the top half of a coat is too big. You're right that a coat isn't inportant at the moment, I just thought I'd try it because of the sales. I searched for one since last fall because I wanted a new one for winter and I wasn't successful! No idea about any designers, but I don't think I'd have the money for something custom made anyway.

Ha, Claire, I wondered if someone would think I cut my hair off when I saw the pictures on my camera! But no, my hair is only in the coat, I didn't cut anything. Although I want to cut it a bit. But not that much!

Astrid, you are such a sweetheart to be smiling so broadly when I know you must be awfully disappointed. The search for a good coat has been difficult and it would be nice not to have to worry about this. I think you need a short trip to the US in late August or early September to buy the perfect coat, which MUST exist!

I have the same dilemma. My work around is to buy the coat to fit my top portion and move the bottom half bottons outwards, to give more room. You start moving the buttons from the one in the middle ( the one that hits you the nearest to your belly button) on a gradual increment, so they look like this:

I am wholeheartedly agreeing with Suz on this. Your difficulties mirror mine so much! I totally relate. But you can't go through another Berlin winter without a perfect coat! This situation calls you to do whatever it takes!

Suz, I think that's gallow's humor. It really would be great to not have to worry about it anymore. A short trip to the US sounds splendid, if I find someone who funds me!

Thanks, Zapotee! Your diagramm is perfect. I think this would work well for wool coats, but I think it wouldn't work with down coats or other weather-proof insulated coats.

Mochi, I really can't go another winter without a new coat! My current one is ready to retire.

Such a bummer that the coat didn't work out. My word you were swimming in it but kept that beautiful smile just the same. I have problems with coats sometimes and in my fantasy life I would just have a tailor make one for me!

Thanks for posting a "miss." Sometimes I think I'm the only one who has them -- in shopping and styling! I understand your frustrations (although mine have nothing to do with being petite). I'm had no luck with trench coat shopping this year. Of course, it's 80 degrees in Chicago today, so maybe I can wait awhile!

That is so sad! Great colour, good style --- wrong size/shape!

I'm wondering if you could take a whole day off to just hie down to C&A or whatever else you have to simply try on EVERY coat they have till you at least find what fits! Ignoring price, for the time being. It seems essential just now to figure out what Berliner size works for you (even somewhat works). It's incredible not to have any options!

Thanks Manidipa. The coats you linked to aren't bad, but they are much too short and too lightweight. The problem is I need a really warm coat for a snowy winter that's at least knee length, because I want to wear skirts and dresses under it too. The coat above was on winter clearance sale, that's why I ordered it now. I tried to find a new one since last fall and I was everywhere I could think of to try coats on!

Aww that's too bad! I usually have the same problems, coats are always overwhelming on me! I hope you find something before the next coat season
