Photographic prints: yay or nay?

I know these aren't necessarily new, but they are cropping up in a lot of places now. I was poking around in Ted Baker to look again at Ingunn's tee and found a very cool t-shirt with a "regency house" print and another with an Italian village along the hem. Then, at Tibi, I saw an interesting floral that makes use of a photo-like collage of cactii. And I've been eyeing clutches and totes by Sara Beltran for my upcoming vacation.
What do you think of these kinds of prints?

I'm a little biased, but I love them. Sometimes I like the concept more than the execution, but by and large, this is a trend I really like. I have had a hard time finding the right piece for me, however.

I keep saying I'm going to print some fabric with some of my photographs and work on some designs of my own...

Oh, I love all those! Fashionizing.com says photo prints are going to big in FW, too. Although like Janet, I have been really picky about the photos I like, I really dig the trend.

Yay! I agree that the execution can be tricky, but I've seen some really beautiful ones.

I love them as well. I have also been admiring Ingunns new tshirt. I hope to add one this spring. Janet - I love the idea of putting one of your photo's on some fabric!

If I found the right one I'd consider it - I like them visually but often the screenprinting process leaves the fabric feeling not so great - no drape, kinda stiff. Maybe that's because most of what I've seen is low-end; probably designer pieces have less of that issue.

For myself, it would have to be exactly the right one (I will know it when I see it;-), but I do love them.

Love this concept and like others, would have to have the right image/s in just the right places on the garment. Nice examples!

I love them if the image is right (not too cliche, good quality print and feels good to touch, placement is modern). In your examples I'd totally go for the first and maybe last one.

Janet - you should make one with one of your images! I've been meaning to do this, probably starting with a test drive on zazzle. I think the key will be figuring out if there is print space limitation on the tee how to work that into the design with matching background and tee-shirt colors or something. Ideally you could print the whole surface but I'm not sure where will do that...

I like this trend a lot and find it keeps catching my eye in stores and in photos. Like others, I won't purchase until I find an image which is just right for me, but I would definitely wear the right item. I might prefer it for S/S when there's a more lighthearted approach to dressing, at least for me.

I know what you all mean about the right image, and I am particularly drawn to the Ted Baker Italian village because it is unique and well-placed, and I love the white sleeves on the tee.

Janet, so many of yours could be so cool -- the cave! the koi! And if you ever do it, please let me know.

Right now, I keep coming back to the Sara Beltran tropical totes. Not particularly inventive but very practical and I admit that I love the beachy vibe -- especially in this B&W one with flamingo pink piping. Cliche maybe, but I still love it.

That's a nice tote! And the image isn't cliche for my taste because of the composition. Cliche for me would be, I dunno, the usual angle on the Eiffel Tower or something.

Thanks for the links Viva. I like them too. The bigger prints on clothing, I will have to admire on others. For myself, I could see a printed pouch or tee. I am a bit print shy, although photo prints are so cool, I could change my mind on that. Hey, my Rag & Bone p.j. jeans are photo prints, I just realized. Obviously I am not shy about distressing.

I love these looks. If I could find something in a black and white that I liked I would definitely consider adding an item with photographic print to my wardrobe. I am seeing a quite a bit of this in store but don't think I have seen anyone wearing it.

I love this trend, but as Janet and Rae said, it's hard to find the right print. I love some of Paul Smith's prints for SS which seems to be inspired by vintage photographs and impressionist paintings

Harmonica, there is something crazy cool about that Paul Smith seascape print shirt that I love. It feels very 70s-disco with its shape and OTT print, but the details of the print are vintage. I'm not sure why I find it so appealing. So ugly it's cute? I think I'd actually wear it.

And Anna, that typewriter dress! Amazing.

All of these examples are amazing! I have never been one for big graphic prints, but I do like some of the things here. Have been seeing a lot of this, staring with the Eleven Paris celebrity mustache t-shirts, but now they are everywhere. Esprit has a line of photographic print t-shirts in their new collection as well. I think they look cute; as with everything the key is knowing how to wear it. The real problem for me though is that I think this look will go out of style just as quickly as it came in, and we'll be left with all these printed tops that we don't want to wear anymore--budget is a huge factor in my fashion décisions!

I love them peeking out from beneath a jacket. Less so in the "overall overall".

I love photographic prints and really think they can bring such interest to an outfit. But as others have commented, it has to be the right print in the right scale.
