Phone orders still free at Zappos

Mo's post about Amazon's free shipping reminded me I wanted to share what I learned about Zappos when I bought a pair of shoes (for someone else!! I'm trying to stick with shop-your-closet-June!)

Zappos' famous free shipping wasn't an option when I tried to place the order online, but when I called, I found out phone orders are still free. Also, if you ask, you can become a VIP member and get free shipping for online orders.

I haven't figured out what the deal is with Zappos...I don't think it's any big deal to be a VIP. I don't remember when/how I got this upgrade, but other than next day "free" shipping it doesn't seem to have any benefit. And it seems you just have to ask to become a VIP, so I dunno.

That's weird, the website says they still have free shipping and returns... As far as I can tell, the VIP gives you free next-business day shipping, but regular gets you normal free shipping.
