Petite Coats - YouLookFab Forum

I am *still* looking for a winter coat. The red one I purchased at NAS was a bit large, so it will have to go back. I've held on to it, hoping more choices would be available and I could exchange it and save myself the shipping cost. However, I haven't been overwhelmed with choices. Here are a few possiblities at websites I have checked:

Nordstrom:

Overall, I really like the silhouette and texture of the herringbone, but I'm not sure about the flare at the sleeves.

Always a bit leery of double-breasted, since I'm so short and not so slim.

I know this isn't a winter coat, but I don't have a trench, either. For YLF intents and purposes, I am coatless!

See above comment about double-breasted coats.

What do you think? Are any of these do-able? I have also shopped the petites sections at ATL, BR, J Crew, and Macy's, with no luck. Do you have other retailers to suggest to me?

Nice choices! I like the brown of the Michael Kors. It looks like a rich brown. I like all of these coats. Can you order them and try them on? I also would be leary of the bell sleeves on the tweed coat, and the very wide lapels.
The AT trench is so pretty in the berry color. Since the double row of buttons is only above the belt, this might work better for petite sizes than the double row going the full length. Angie? Also since it is a trench and so not as thick as a wool coat I think the tie belt will work better.
If I remember you had a red wool coat with a tie belt you were trying, right?
Also if memory serves well you were the one who recommended the Don Coldsmith books on our reading thread? My husband and I love them!

Oh, san, I'm delighted you've become a Coldsmith fan! My dad introduced the books to me, and I've devoured every one of them. My family and I camped out this last weekend at a state park, and we visited El Cuartelejo, one of the eastern pueblo dwellings mentioned in a couple of his books. It was so fun to see the site in real life!

Yes, I had tried the cherry red wool coat with the tie belt. I can order them to try, but I'd like some "expert" guidance to figure out which might be the best bet before blowing any of my clothing budget on shipping costs.

Fantastic that you visited El Cuartelejo! That is so exciting. Yes my husband and I went to the used book store (while in Alaska) and found #1-4 and then some other later ones. I read 11 first and am now reading #1 (about Heads Off and the Elk-Dog). My husband has read 1-4 and on the hunt for #5. We love these books. It was just the kind of historical novels we were looking for. Thank you for the recommendation!
I understand about the shipping cost. I'm sure some of the ladies with a really good eye will get you going in the right direction on the coats. I remember thinking about the cherry red one, that although I love the color, the tie belt on the thick wool seemed bulky on the waist. Good luck. Can't wait to see what you choose. They are all so pretty. I hope you get the AT trench and a wool one too.

i love the ann taylor coat! i adore pink! i like the ck or kors coats the most though for actual winter coats. the kors one might be a bit long. i know the jacket in the photo is probably not the petite one, but still, it looks like it could be pretty long. the CK one would be a good choice b/c it looks like the length would be perfect for you.

I have this same problem! I'm petite also and trying to find a fall trench or something and it's difficult. I don't know if you've looked at Talbot's petites yet, but I just browsed there today and this one jumped out to me for a winter coat. It's houndstooth and it's not double breasted or flared sleeves:

If you don't like the long style, they have it in short also:

The Talbots trench is fabulous in petite. I have two clients sporting those in black as we speak! You might like the red.

Also Becky, I like your coat choices. The flare on the sleeve of the false plain is fussy – pass on that. I've seen it on first hand.

Bluefly doesn't appear to have any petite sizes (in any item, let alone outerwear).

Overstock has very few coats available in petite sizes, but look at this cheetah-print trench!

Actually Becky, it was this style which does not seem to be offered online in petite. But it DOES exist. I fitted it onto my client myself.
