Peruvian Connection - appealing?

I just got a Peruvian Connection catalog and I find their style oddly compelling. The colors are rich and moody, and the fabrics all warm and wintery. Plus they do a ton of oversized tunic over leggings and boots, or cropped over long looks. It's a bit romantic and feminine, but the overall "mood" is really lovely and dark somehow.

Does anyone else get this catalog or see this appeal?

oh yeah! i've been getting their catalog on and off for - 15, 20 years? back when you had to copy the 800# from the back of the catalog you saw in the doc's waiting room, go home, call up, and wait!

Due to their great sales i've had the good fortune of wearing a few of their pieces the last few years. beautiful, high quality materials, well made, and stunning. i don't think i'd personally want to dress P.C. wholesale, but it's a wonderful place for gorgeous and unique 'frosting' items. You Will Not see yourself coming and going in P.C.!!!

and depending on your budget they have some really nice basics - layering tees, regular tees, camis, slips, and so on.

not to mention baby alpaca is out of this world soft, light, and warm. I prefer it to most cashmere out there these days. Glad to see you're having fun Una!! steph

I've never heard of Peruvian Connection before now, but I really like their aesthetic. Reminds me of Garnet Hill and Sundance.

My sister gave me a PC sweater that was very similar to this one last year for Christmas. Since most of my wardrobe is neutrals, I wore it almost every evening during our ski vacation. I loved the colors and the coziness. A local outfiitter's store carries some of the PC collection. Some of the knits are quite soft and cuddly, while others are heavier and can be a bit scratchy if you have sensitive skin.

I like supporting these kind of companies which try to combine entrepreneurship with social responsibility. And, like you, I'm drawn to the overall look which seems to have a moodiness and history.

I don't know much about them but it looks appealing! Reminds me a bit of the Sundance Catalog - kind of that same romantic/boho vibe.

Alpaca is super warm and very soft - I can't wear it touching my skin though (although oddly I can knit with it with no problems) since despite its softness, something in it makes me itch. =(

Gaylene, "history" is a great word. There's a medieval feeling to their clothes somehow - tapestries, woolens, old buildings in the background. Sundance is much - well, sunnier.

Thanks. Una, for putting your finger on why I don't particularly care for the "Sundance look"; it's too--sunny!! LOL. I am so NOT the romantic/boho, "sunny" type. But give me a medieval wimple and a dark cloak with boots--that is a look I could get into! It would be such fun to try it in the fall for my first day of classes. That would make my students sit up and pay attention!

My very-unconventional grandmother used to wear sweaters and scarves from them. Often paired with her favorite long suede skirt and boots. My sister inherited some of those pieces and still wears them today.

Yes, there is definitely a medieval look I want to explore there.

I saw a really amazing production of Macbeth here that had amazing set and costume design along these lines. The color scheme was all grey and black, except for a deep red used by the Fates and in the scenes involving blood. All the costumes were somehow both futuristic/Star Trek/Matrix and at the same time very old world medieval and spare. It was so somber and timeless and just so visually clever.

Yes, I've gotten their catalog over the years and have always been very tempted, lots of appeal but the prices stopped me from ordering. Not outrageously expensive -- just a bit out of my range. I like to think of it as rustic boho.

I really love Peruvian Connection and have ordered a few items from their catalog over the years. Last winter I bought this sweater dress:

The quality of PC clothing is fabulous, but some of the prices are a little outrageous.

Rustic boho! I love it. I was going to start a thread asking what is the grown-up version of Free People, but I believe my question is answered.
I will order more from Peruvian Connection in the future (1 sweaterdress, returned, so far) because the negative reviews all say, "not up to your usual standards" which leads me to believe it's pretty high quality.

Fern, you've got it - it's like the dark grown-up version of Free People. I think the quality is generally good from the reviews, and the prices sure imply it!
