Hi all! I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. As a longtime reader of the blog/forum but an infrequent commenter, I have done a lot of my thinking behind the scenes. Since the downtime created by the pandemic has given me the space to really start participating here more, I figure that I should write more of my reflections out - both as a record for myself and to connect with everyone here. So this is part one in what I’m sure will be a series of long, rambling posts about my reflections over the past year. Any and all ideas, thoughts, questions and suggestions are welcomed! I’m starting off with my personas/monikers/statements as a foundation.

FASHION PERSONAS

  • Modern Classic
  • Artistic Eclectic
  • Bohemian Hippie
  • Trendy Fashionista
  • Girly Tomboy
  • Romantic Eclectic

These are the personas that I see in my style. If you see something else I would love to hear it!

MONIKER

  • Art teacher on holiday - This is number one, and the one that encompasses the rest of my looks. Everything listed below can be done as a subset of this, in my mind. Descriptive words are comfortable, easy, unfussy, bright, arty, whimsical, retro, gamine, cool.

STYLE SUBSETS

  • Ballerina off duty - This is my most basic, pared down style and consists of men’s button down shirts, leggings, and ballet flats. I am comfortable wearing more neutrals and solid colors with this look. This is my girly tomboy style.
  • Maximal rainbow minimalist - I prefer colorful statement pieces with lots of pattern, shine, or interesting detail, but I don’t like to have too many items overall. Most of my items are colorful and maximal while my wardrobe as a whole is minimal.
  • Boho-lite sprite - I frequently veer into too-boho while shopping and have to remind myself that those looks don’t get worn. Boho-lite, in my bright colors rather than the typical earth tones, is a good zone for me. This is the aspect of my style that includes the ethereal essence. I picture a sassy fairy - it’s a little bit Tinkerbell.
  • Quirky vintage classic - This is the aspect that appreciates classic items like button downs, ballet flats, cardigans, shirtdresses, and the like, plus prints like plaid, polka dots, and stripes. I prefer classic with a twist, which is why I love Kate Spade handbags and shoes. This is also the part that loves platonic ideal items, such as the quintessential white Converse high top, wool duffle coat, wood-heeled clog, etc.
It feels good to have the moniker and statements defined! Next round I’ll elaborate on my wardrobe analysis over the past year. Attached are some photos from the past two years that give examples of my style.
