Perceptions of leopard print and hair colour

I love leopard print, do you?

As a child I would play dress up in my Mum's 60's leopard print swing coat, it smelled of her perfume and had the most lovely lining. I would love to wear that coat now but it glory days are long gone.

I want to feel very retro and glamorous when I wear leopard print, this image perfectly showcases my preferred look

But I do have a stumbling block....I'm blond and in my mind blonds wearing leopard print is more edgy in a rock and roll Debbie Harry, Kate Moss kind of way. It's a fabulous look but very different from the one I wish to portray.

Am I alone in this? Does hair colour change your perception of a leopard print outfit?
Can a pink skinned blond wear a leopard print coat?

I never thought about it. I don't know why you couldn't. You just need the coat colors to compliment your own skin tones.

I don't think it should matter at all. Think of Old Hollywood glam when you think of blond hair and leopard!

I don't have that perception at all. Like Jonesy, I think of the 40's-60's Hollywood actresses in their swingy leopard coats - many of them with blond, bouffant hairstyles. Blondes never lack for role models when it comes to fashion or style!

Julie, I tried on a leopard print jacket last night and so thought of you. It was swingy, very cropped, 3/4 sleeves, pale pink linking, and felt like a plush toy. I was so close to buying it, and a lot of it was because of you. I may still change my mind.

Anyway, I get what you're saying about the hair color. It actually went through my mind that the jacket looked good with my brown hair. However, my experience is that there are lots and lots of shades of leopard prints and I bet you can find one that suits you without being quite so edgy. You're not platinum blond after all.

Julie, you absolutely could wear leopard! I have dark ash blond hair and very fair Scots-Irish skin (with pink undertones) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE leopard.

Target has an adorable Merona faux fur leopard coat that I may get today. I would post a pic, but the details of the leopard print don't show up too well on the Target website.

I plan to pair a teal scarf and teal leather gloves with it. Red accessories would be smashing as well.

The girl in the picture that you linked to has a very similar haircolor to you- did you notice that? I don't think the difference is in haircolor, it's in styling.

I see no reason why blondes shouldn't have just as much fun as brunettes when it comes to leopard! If you feel like coats are tricky, perhaps work the leopard into a piece that's a big further from your hair? Despite the heat wave we're having in SF right now, I decided to make my black skirt and black sleeveless top read more "fall" by wearing my peep-toe leopard print heels which had sat in the back of my closet unattended for ages. It definitely gives my outfit a sassy and fun feel without, I think, getting overly edgy (which wouldn't be appropriate at my office setting). Anyway, just something to think about...leopard can be fun all the way down to your toes!

Come to think of it - I do not wear leopard print. I wear snakeskin, cow and zebra animal prints.

I never thought about hair color when you wear animal prints, but I suppose you have a point. There are so many to choose from with all sorts of colors, so finding one that suits you probably is easier than you think!

I also never thought about hair color and animal print. I say pick the print you like and enjoy it. I suspect the shades of the print and the sizing will affect how they look. I don't think hair color will matters as much as skin tone.

Hmm, I think blondes can looks so pretty in tan or camel outfits. I always think of that monochromatic golden look as very glamorous as opposed to edgy or rock. I don't see why leopard print would be different. And to answer your question I love leopard print but I don't have anything yet. A.P.C. had the most wonderful looking leopard print coat about three years ago, but unfortunately I was not brave enough to get it before it sold out.

Just find the perfect colourway, and I am seeing you with your hair all perfectly done, red lips, LOADS of polish - and of course, exuding that sophistication that goes with all of that...

Maybe my imagination is running overtime, but I can already picture it!

Patience, I can see you wearing the coat, your colouring will be perfect for recreating a very glamorous look.

I guess the search is on, but a little harder it has to fit, be on budget and the right colour. I'm getting ready for hunt.

The coat is lovely. love the 3/4 sleeves. You can wear leopard, when using a coat like that tone down the make up..no red lips, no red nails, go for nudes.

I think you would look great in leopard print....I posted a few pictures of blonds in leopard and they look great. I dont really like some of the pieces I've posted like the red lining and leopard print on the coat but I own the sleeveless ruffled top...haven't worn it yet but it's cute in a Sheena, Queen of the Jungle kinda way. The coat you've posted looks amazing....

I like SOME leopard print but it cannot be too small and the color has to be right...softer and warmer not really cheesy and garish.

Mary, Tippi Hedron has to be one of the most influential style icons ever. LOVE.

Scarlet, I know what you mean, I have seen so many photos of blonds wearing camel, tans and winter whites but there skin seams very golden in comparison to mine.

I wear make-up about 70% of the time and would just hate to own a coat that only worked if I'm wearing make-up!

This one is cute, but out of budget, and my neck is probably not long enough.

Hmm. no. Well the coat is easy to find on the website. Seems a little dark and less classic to me, but I may be crazy.
