Peplum & petite proportion problems? Purple preferrable?

I was excited to try a black and white combo with my VC stripe skirt. Didn't work out quite as I'd planned. I think the peplum-esque top hits too low? Makes me go back to when I thought I was a pear years ago.
Purple silk is the other choice. I'll likely wear my matching suede slingbacks. Going to Reno and out to dinner with the girls. Fancier than normal outings but not 'fancy' fancy lol. Rib cook off tomorrow.
If neither of these does the trick, do you have any other ideas for the skirt? Thanks! (leaving in one hour)

I had a similar problem with this shape of top with the tube skirt. I think it's because the curve of the hem goes right around the widest part of the hips so it emphasizes them. With your top, the white bit also adds the illusion of width. The top I'm wearing today is also longer in back, but it is straight in front so it avoids drawing a circle right there, if that makes any sense. The other thing that worked at this length for me was a top with a diagonal hem. Just anything other than a circular shape.

I like the purple top with it though.

thanks Diana. I am going with the purple, although part of me wonder if it's 'sexy secretary' with the slingbacks. I know, I have a real issue there with anything remotely officey, lol.
I am bringing my olive drapey tee and olive gladiators so I can always switch out and dress it way down if I want.
In the future I may use the half tuck to solve the shirt length issue.

I think this would work better visually if there were sleeves to balance the peplum a bit, even short sleeves, KWIM? I'm trying to picture it that way.

That peplum is just the wrong shape with the wrong detail, but the purple works, and you can also 'faux" semi tuck tops with these skirts. A lot of fabrics will just sort of stick to them wherever you fold them. Asymmetrical hems work great, too.
