Fall has come early here, it was 48 only in the am yesterday, but up to 70 later. Saturdays are my festival days, so I figured it was a good day for active people watching/fall trend spotting!

What I saw in abundance:
Denim, denim, denim. Allll shapes and shades of blue, except very wide, but LOTS of distressed jeans still. A couple denim jackets and longer skirts. Even I was wearing jeans!

Sneakers of all colors and flip flops were the vast majority of the footwear. Not many pool slides, which have been popular for the last few years (worn w socks). One lady had tall boots, but didn't see many otherwise. Quite a few crocs too :/

Braids, braids, braids! LOTS of cornrows, including waist length, quite a lot of beads on the little girls (very popular when I was a kid). A few fun colors, but less than previous years.

Shorts were long and loose, mostly black. Some leggings, also mostly black.

Neutrals dominated, but there were more light purple shades than previous years- lavendar, lilac.

Straw sunhats of course, but one well dressed lady (probably a presenter or performer) was wearing a teal fedora type hat!

It’s still hot here, so people are still wearing summer clothes. I’m getting tired of it lol

It got colder in Toronto in a last few days. I’ve been people watching, too. Still lots of skinny jeans or leggings with booties and coatigans.

I don’t know why some women would think skinny jeans look dated, I think that they look great restyled. Saw them with chunky sneakers and oversized blazers. Bombers are popular, too, either oversized or cropped. Same with denim jackets.

Lots of trenches, combat boots. I liked combat boots worn with long socks.

The temps dropped really suddenly here this week and it’s been cold and windy. Can’t say I’m noticing anything new trendwise. Lots of chunky fleece and thin puffers. More bootcut/wide leg jeans and fewer skinnies. Pretty equal split between sneakers and ankle boots with the occasional clog cropping up. I have noticed the popularity of braided hairstyles! They were everywhere this summer and seem to be going strong into fall.

I agree with Irina in that skinny (not skin tight) jeans look great still with updated styling .

Anyways , the only interesting style I see is on young people : late teens and early 20’s . Not aspirational for me , but it does deliver a look. Wide leg , distressed jeans , chunky white runners , unbuttoned shirts worn over crop tops . Women my age don’t seem to wear anything of discernible style . ‍♀️

It’s interesting, Suntiger and I live only about 45 minutes from each other, but on the other side of the bridge, away from the cities, the vibe is different.

I had maybe 100 people come through my studio the other night, and I saw everything from bold colorful print dresses to denim of all kinds (wider legs definitely making an appearance), lots of casual tees-and-high-waisted jeans on the younger crowd, some great oversized jackets, fun handbags and backpacks, etc. Granted this was an event in a diverse, eclectic city environment, but it also reflects what I see on the streets.

In the more conservative historic state capital, the ensembles tend to be more professional and less trendy. Cropped trousers, pumps, blouses. Or sundresses with jackets and sandals now shifting toward boots. Still plenty of skinny jeans but I see it shifting towards wider and easier silhouettes. And then there’s tourist wear which tends to be closer to what Suntiger sees.

The best people watching though is at the baseball game I went to last night. Team spirit brings out the style adventure in everyone!

Yep I'm right across the bay from Janet More than 45 min the way the bridge is these days :p Quicker by boat I'm sure!

It's generally rural on my side, the big towns are under 20k people. Lots of little post office + gas station/liquor store town too! Miles of just farms, and lots of rivers The shopping, however, not so good. Outlets, consignment, boutiqes is all.

There are definitely occasions to dress up- $$$ fundraisers (I don't go but they exist), gallery events, networking events, theatre, First Friday, etc. Dressed up generally means flowy and beachy though

I went out to a restaurant last week for DH’s birthday. It has a great vibe- buzzy, full, excellent cocktails, etc. I wore jeans and a blazer - straight from work. But most of the women had long sleeve dresses, colourful, loose, lots of long natural hair. It felt like people in the most part had dressed up to go out - lots of groups of women. I felt a bit boring to be honest- it was a well heeled glam scene.

Aside from that I haven’t had many people watching chances except for at a marathon….

The most noticeable thing on the street here in Seattle is the hair (I live in the city). There is SO MUCH LONG HAIR. Across the genders. Even when hair is asymmetrical or shaved on one side - there is long hair on the other side. Lots of rainbow hair too.

Jeans are relaxed, and mostly wide and long, wide cropped, or relaxed straight. I don't see skinny jeans, but I do see leggings.

The teens and young adults tend to wear the same thing. Short dresses and skirts, or shorts with sneakers, Bikies + socks, and boots, or VERY cropped tops with relaxed jeans. Shackets, bombers, cardigans, and coats over the top. The rises are HIGH. No bare midriff from the waist down.

Germans are always so quick to break out the cold weather attire! This year that hasn't been much choice, with highs around 60 (for a couple hours in the afternoon--lows in 40s or 50s). That generally means dark jackets, boots, and jeans. Summer fashion catches my eye much more.

Highs are still hovering around 31C/88F here but the mornings and evenings are ever so slightly cooler. Young people are definitely wearing wide and low jeans.

Driving home from long weekend in Boston. Saturday was quite chilly so jeans, boots, sweaters were on display. Went to an outdoor concert with the 20-30 something crowd.
Distressed jeans overwhelmed all others by a mile- super distressed, up to high thigh in some cases. Mom jeans. Straight or girlfriend. Light wash. Overalls, one strap unclipped. Flannel.
Underwhelming! Not my favorite styles, not the most flattering fits.

Walking back through the ever- developing Seaport district I noticed several new and high end stores including Vince and Scotch and Soda.

I live in a small (pop. 17,000) town that is currently overrun by fisherfolk and tourists come to enjoy the annual fall migration up river of salmon - so lots of hip-waders and rubber boots, jeans, khaki, vests, field coats, and Tilley hats! Especially on the weekends.

The locals (lots of retirees) are in jeans or joggers, hikers or sneakers, and fleece tops. With cooler temps and rain, rubber boots and Bludstones are out, but hardier folks are still in Birkenstocks and flip flops. I’ve noticed ‘a lot’ of 40+ women are wearing skinny or slim fit jeans and styling them with a wide cuff, and simple T. Cuffed joggers seem to have replaced black leggings. 30 yo and up are wearing slim cut joggers in dark colours and sleek looking fabrics, the ‘kids’ are wearing more colour (green, maroon, goldenrod) oversized baggy joggers, in thick cotton, often striped down the side - some wide legged without the ankle elastic, and cropped or bra tops with zipped hoodies worn open. (The Hailey Beiber look.) Chunky sneakers on the youth, flat sneakers on 30yo and up.

Lots of long (bra strap length) hair, especially on young folk, but also quite a bit of ‘good’ shorter hair in 50 yo and up. Natural hair and fro’s (big ones!) I don’t know if it’s a fringe trend, or if there was an event, but a good half dozen women of a certain age are sporting lavender hair (think Kelly Osborne) and running around town in all lavender or silver grey outfits. Whatever it’s about, they are looking fab!

Backpacks and Fanny packs worn as Fanny packs (lol) or cross body. So many tats! Un-inked skin seems to be in the minority. Scrunchies (high messy ‘pineapple’ buns) vs claws or other devices. Not seeing headbands, ponytails, or braids.

Funnily, no matter how grubby the menfolk sometimes dress, facial and head hair seems to be well groomed! Nicely groomed medium sized beards appear quite popular.

It’s kind of a weird transitional time, and that is what is reflected in what folks are wearing. The breezy summer frocks are, however, gone…

Thanks for the report! What kind of festivals do you attend?

I grabbed some recent pics from around Taipei for comparison….Nothing too interesting! Rush hour moped drivers in their safety gear; rush hour subway riders in super standard business wear (blue white beige blouses or polo shirts; black or gray pants or skirts) and mornings at the market, where people mostly shuffle around in pjs and pool slides (myself included)

It's finally 'cooler' here but really that just means 27C (80F) at 9am rather than the usual 30-35C+ heatwaves we've been having as of late. Bring on Autumn already!

So I'm still seeing *plenty* of socks with slides, short shorts (usually denim shorts) & t-shirts/ crop tops around here. I will say though that many of the young folk have been wearing jeans since I got back in August (though *just* light wash & baggy, looser than straight cut). I have no idea how they do it - it's still so bloody hot out!

Ha! I missed that VF cover! Below is good example of the sort of pleated mini I’ve been seeing. Worn with sneakers or boots. A little longer than Nicole’s there.

Interesting, Joy mentioned on my thread about my bright coat in a “sea of black”. Another day I walked through the Toronto’s Financial District around the end of the work day. I used to work there but our office moved and now I only happened to be there once in a while.

I was glad to see so many sharply dressed people, lots of tailored pieces mostly in black and some neutrals. I didn’t realize how I missed that “sea of black”

The tourists have returned in droves, so hard to discern any localized trends. Youngsters are in oversized sportswear, straight leg trousers with puddle hems, bucket hats or caps. Lots of sneakers and stompy boots. Older people round here tend to make more individual choices, so quite a few sharply dressed elders around too.
