I've been so quick to decry the mere idea of a pencil skirt .  I often imagine my body to be so dramatically different than it is - but that's not so unusual, I think?  Anyways, I've owned this stretch crepe pencil skirt for years, and I bet I've worn it  3 times.  When I bought it , it was on-sale thus affordable for me at that time , but at least  a full size too big and I  had to do a real downsizing job on it.  The fabric was SO lovely to work with and I did a careful and professional job on the alterations,  but for some reason I still never wore it.  Throughout my many closet edits and outright purges, I've still hung onto it - because, well, Eileen Fisher.
I had to dress quickly today for an unexpected meeting, and wasn't feeling like a dress.  Pants were out as it's too hot.  Cue the pencil skirt. Fit fine, was comfortable, and with a few false starts on which top to wear, I ended up with this outfit. The t-shirt is an Angie pick I ordered about a month ago, and it was a question as to whether to keep it. It's super soft and drapey, but it's also quite thin, bordering on sheer on the striping .  It also really enhances my bust, which I'm not super-comfortable with .  However, I cut the tags and stuck it in my closet. Honestly, with the amount of ordering and sorting and returning and deciding I've done this summer, I am so sick of stuff.  Short sleeves are also tricky, no?  Sometimes they feel too mannish and casual, other times I feel like I'm wearing a golf shirt, other times they feel ok.  I'm so confused .

Picking up the plot again - I wore Jockey slip shorts under the skirt (it's super hot here right now, and the shorts add a lot of comfort) , stood up as straight as humanly possible and actually enjoyed wearing this outfit. It restored my confidence in being able to wear a skirt too, which was great. I'll be adding this to my packing list for an upcoming week-long biz trip to Toronto.

Worn with new fav retro slides, simple jewellery, simple makeup , and no bag or tote . Slides fit properly:  I was sitting down in the up-close photo.

skirt - stretch crepe Eileen Fisher, circa 2012 ?
top - All Saints - new
slides - Fly London - new
necklace - silver/gold - Jenny Bird - couple of years old

Oh, and to make it a true Lisa experience, one of my co-workers at this meeting was eyeing me up and down, then asked what was wrong with my ankles and legs.  "what , you're 12 and shaving your legs for the first time?"    Sigh. .
