I have a pair of black suede peep toe booties. I have only ever worn them without hose. Since they are black - and suede- they are too heavy looking for summer. Since they have an open toe, they can't be worn in winter with bare feet. I do start wearing them maybe in September because even though it is still quite warm here, they feel seasonally appropriate by then. Because it often stays fairly warm until December, I actually get several months wear out of shoes like that, because I will wear them again at the end of the winter when it's warm enough to skip socks without looking silly.
I don't like hose with a shoe that is as open as a sandal but I don't mind tights (not hose) with a peep toe. I just don't wear it because I think others may see it as the same as wearing reinforced toe pantyhose with white sandals!
