I'd really like to get a shorter, chunkier pearl necklace as well as a longer one for knotting, layering or doubling.

I found the post where Angie mentioned the one from Ann Taylor (for the shorter necklace) - but unfortunately, AT doesn't carry the item anymore. Too bad - it really looked like a great deal, and it was beautiful. I can't find the link anymore, but if I do - I'll be sure to post it in here.

Where can I get a necklace like the one at AT? And furthermore, for the longer, rope-style pearl necklace - how many inches long should I get? Any suggestions on where to buy these?

Any hints on diametre of the pearls for the shorter necklace? And the longer one too? I'm assuming the longer one would have a more moderate pearl size than the shorter, chunkier one.

I've pretty much decided to spend my money on accessories, shoes and bags until I get to my goal weight. Of course, I will need to buy some clothes - because anything from last year is too big, but I'm likely to be a bit frugal in this dept. until I get to where I want to be weight and shape wise.

I'm in the UK but i've found many of the cheaper shops (almost the ones aimed at teens) are doing some fantastic chunky pearl necklaces x

Try Kohl's if you have one.

Hopefully you'll find a bargin, mine were £1.50 compared to £10 in a more expensive shop! and it looks like the same necklace! x

Both San and I bought pearls at NAS, so you might look at Nordstroms. She got the long ones and I treated myself to a short strand that's chunkier than any I owned. You want the size and length in proportion to your body size. For a short strand, you might look for those with a chain at the back that makes the length adjustable within a few inches. It can make a big difference.
I made myself a long strand that is just long enough to knot if I want to but not so long that it has to be knotted.
Shiny will probably chime in here but I think she commented that she likes her long strand to hit to almost waist length. Your bust size will figure into the length of these, so you will need to experiment. My long strand is chunky and heavy enough to hang straight and not get easily hooked over breasts like small light weight pearls might.

I don't think this is quite what you are looking for since you've mentioned layering, but I wanted to chime in with this amazing necklace anyway because it instantly makes me look awesome. A friend of mine just started selling for Stella & Dot and I was happily surprised with the pieces. If you are looking for a piece that will instantly make outfits cooler, this might work for you, but you won't get the versatility from a short strand and a long strand.

Everyone has given me some great ideas. I'll check Kohl's (easy - just down the street from me) and some of the cheaper stores. That said - next time I'm at 'the mall' - I'll be sure to look in Nordstrom, Talbots as well.

But if you can spend a little more, try Jcrew. They have some gorgeous pearls right now, many on ribbons. Really pretty. If I didn't already have so many pearl necklaces, I might buy another from Jcrew. I don't see them online now, but I did see them in the store recently.

Ann Taylor does have chunky pearls right now - but I find they are too big for someone my size.

I think my long pearls are 60 inches.

Ebay! Most of them come from China, they are the real thing and they are good quality but they a long time to arrive but and are very affordable, totally worth the wait! You can also save on shipping by buying both of the necklaces from the same seller.

I like Pearl Paradise. They sell cultured freshwater pearls that look like Akoyas but cost much less. They also have good prices on other types of pearls. I have a lovely Tahitian pearl pendant from them plus a set of pink pearls.

Are you looking for real or faux pearls?

I saw the AT necklace at the AT outlet recently. I definitely think it is around at the outlets. They had it for $24.99. It was very heavy and very nice looking.

I'd better get myself to an AT outlet then!

I did pick up a couple at Kohl's, but I'm not 100% certain about them. The one that Angie mentioned last year (the Ann Taylor one) really looked excellent, and I was sorry to see that it was no longer available - so thank you for letting me know about it being in their outlet store

Have you checked out Talbots? They had some gorgeous pearls in their fall lookbook.

Which reminds me, I wanted to go to a Talbots to check those out...

P.S. The AT Outlet carries different items than the store, so don't expect it to have anything that is sold out at AT. They might have similar items, but it's pretty much an entirely different line than AT and ATL. I like it, myself -- it was great when I was an 18 because I could TRY ON my size in the store! A miracle of shopping.

I second Bella's recommendation for ebay. I got a beautiful shell pearl short chunky strand (11mm pearls, 18in length) on ebay for under $10! It took about 3 weeks to arrive but I wasn't in a rush...

Can someone post a link to Angie's post with the Ann Taylor necklace? I cannot find it anymore - I was able to search her blog and find it yesterday but it is gone now I think. Anyways, it had a link to the AT necklace and now I want to make sure the one I saw at AT outlet is the same!

If you're looking for chunky long pearls, Target is your place. I just bought some light pink pearls for like $8, but they also have grey.

Ooh - thank you Marisa - I'll be sure to have a look there next time I'm at Target. I did buy a couple of necklaces at Kohl's - reasonably priced, but I'm not 100% convinced they're exactly what I'm looking for. I think maybe I'm just not used to the shorter, chunkier pearls on me. I don't have pictures of myself yet...but once I get posting them, I'll be sure to ask about the ones I did buy. But - at $8 - no problem getting more! Thank you
