Peacoat profusion - YouLookFab Forum

I got all of the peacoats I ordered, took some pictures with better lighting, and I am thoroughly confused - can't decide what to think.

Normally this time of year (transition to winter, temps in 30-40F) I wear black Miss Sixty coat (#1) (above the knee length). It's very practical, machine washable, has a hood - in other words, very useful for day to day wear. However, this fall I started toying with the idea of adding a peacoat as an alternative to the black coat.

#2 - Loft navy coat.
#3 -5 - Lands End coat (actually, these are two different sizes (6 in #4 and 8 in #5) and two different colors (garnet vs. raspberry) but I can't really tell the difference in these photos. Although I think the shoulders in #5 look too wide, so perhaps size 8 is too big.
#6 - JCrew majesty peacoat.

Loft coat was $96, Landsend $80, JCrew is the most expensive at $225.

Any thoughts? Is it worthwhile to consider one of these as an addition to the black coat? TIA!

Have you tried testing them outdoors to see how warm they feel? I have to say I like the Loft one the best on you in terms of fit and color. I am not loving 3 to 6. They look too big? Or maybe it's the collar? Btw I love your Miss Sixty coat!

I prefer the smaller lands end simply because the other two coats aren't aligning correctly at the bottom hem. Lands end runs huge, so I'm sure the smaller size must be right.

I too like the Loft the best. It looks a little more streamlined or something.

Does your neck get cold in the winter? That might be something to think about also. The Loft one does have the higher collar, so it would keep your neck warmer.

I think peacechick's suggestion about walking outside with them on is a great one.

The Lands End and J Crew coats look too big to my eye. But my favorite is the first coat.

I love your Miss Sixty coat! My preferences are for the loft, because the drapey neck looks nice on you and I think the J Crew cut fits you better than the LE. Of the LE, I think the 6 is the better size. I am wondering though why the bottom hem is peaking out on the Loft and Crew coats. Did you miss an internal button?

I like the color of #5 but the fit in #3. I also like the collar on #2 but the hemline is not matched up.

Yes, the hemline has been bothering me on both Loft and JCrew coats. I can't figure out the reason for that.

Looks like everyone is seeing what I am seeing - the Loft coat has the better fit except for the hem not being even; the JCrew has the best color; and all three coats look a bit bulky.

I think these are somehow a little too bulky and need a little more give, even though the sizes seem right. That has always been my issue with peacoats, that they don't drape. I was lucky to find the Fleurette on consignment... It is a brand worth looking into.

ETA: Good grief, had no idea they were so expensive! I paid 1/10 the price of these at retail. Wow. Maybe eBay?

We are not seeing you in full body so it's difficult to judge scale of collar, etc.

It looks to me as if the pockets at hip are pulling in both sizes of the LE. My initial thought was that I far prefer the Majesty coat. The Loft coat is nice, too, but I suspect the quality wouldn't be as good.

I like #1 and #2 best. Remember that buttons can be repositioned to create a better fit.

I wonder if the misalignment of the hems is happening because the way you are standing has one shoulder lower than the other - if you stand up square, does the issue go away?

Also, you might check Macy's. They seem to always have a sale, and this one from Calvin Klein was very nice when I tried it on in the store. I needed petite sizing, so didn't end up getting it. I ended up getting this one by Kenneth Cole Reaction, and I've been very pleased with it (although the color selection seems to be low in the regular sizes - there are more colors in petite sizing). The quality might be higher than the Old Navy coat.

I guess I expected to like the JCrew coat more than the Loft but in fact I like the Loft coat the most (and it feels really warm). The hem misalignment is not too bad and can probably be fixed by moving buttons.

I also like the coats from Macys that you linked to, Sarah - they have at least one of them in stock in store so I might try it on when I go to Sears to return the Landsend coats.
