My favourite pattern is the ubiquitous horizontal stripe. I love love love it. I even have a striped cashmere scarf.
I also like hits of plaid and especially gingham. Plaid gets more love in winter and gingham in summer.
I'm drawn to toile-like patterns or Oriental motifs in blue and white.
I like abstract geometrics.
I even like some whimsical prints (cat shirts).
I also like florals but I tend to tire of them more quickly so should not spend much on them except maybe for scarves.
Pre-grey hair I'd use animal print as a way to tie my hair and a dark element into outfits but with my grey hair I expect that might change. It wasn't so much love of the pattern in itself that drove me to choose it -- more it's usefulness for making outfits. I'll probably find some alternative now.
What's consistent (for me):
- Usually the pattern involves one colour and one or two neutrals, sometimes with a few other colours as well, but rarely a lot.
- Almost always, it involves blue, and if it doesn't, it's likely to be black or charcoal or grey and white.
This is a fun exercise, Una. When people add their finds it gives a great snapshot of their style and a particular element that makes it what it is. I mean...compare Staysfit's soft florals and fine geometrics to Janet's florals on a dark background!
Pattern choices are so individual and indicative.
