I may be totally missing the mark with your suggestions for my Sag Harbor-like pants, but I am so excited!

I picked up a couple of things - gray sweater, navy tee, navy patterned tee and wedge sandals - and I think they make a big difference. All four of the new pieces will work with my white jeans and capris as well. I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow.

I feel like Maxwell the Geico pig - wheeeee!

This should probably be entitled "de-tweeing the peach chinos". I hope they worked! The belts alone make a difference to my eye. I can't get over how comfortable the sandals are, they are Clarks Artisans.

The tops in 1, 2 and 4 are from JCP. I looked at 4 after seeing velvetychocolate's thread on Joe Fresh. Like Shannon, my shirt inventory is low.

Also, in another thread trying to style my white skirt, Suz linked to an EF skirt on Nordstrom for inspiration and Texstyle suggested a denim or chambray top. Do either of these work with this skirt?

Sorry the pictures aren't better. We finally have morning sun today : )

What do you think? Are these big improvements or am I hallucinating?

Gosh are these the same pants?! They look awesome with the new pairings. Very fresh and modern. I love 1 and think all you need is one more roll. Love the blue tee too. Your skirt pairings are great too. The patterned tee seems to tAke away some of the sweetness. Your spring wardrobe is coming along well! Omg, I love the chinos!

I love #1! Followed by 2, 4. For the skirt I like #6 best. I think this type of flowy skirt works better with longer untucked tops.

Thanks Ceit and Jules! I've been wanting to find something to wear with that white skirt. I adore it - as unfashionable as it may be - and hope this shirt does the trick.

Yes, you have succeeded. I am wondering if one of the reasons #1 looks so cool is that the top and bottom are similar in color value, i.e. low contrast. It is a stunner.

On the other hand, to my eye #5/6 just don't work...they look dated. Maybe a blue chambray work shirt or something RATE with that skirt...or something outrageously feminine. Just a thought. Overall I say, great choices!

Liz, I'm not going to have time to get a better pic of the belt for a few days. It is a snake print Michael Kors from Marshalls, nothing fancy. I bought it last fall.
Suz, thanks for the input, you are a true gem! Though I guess my interpretation with the skirt isn't getting comments (except Sheila's below) so it must not be working. Oh well, the shirt will work with other pieces!

My favs are #1 and #4. You have applied the advice very well, these all look great!

Hmmm...I think it is the pattern of the fabric, not the shape or cut of the top. If I had this in my closet I would probably wear it over denim jeans and add a blazer or baseball jacket or a colorful cardigan. With the white skirt it seems like the ensemble needs something additional to mix up the look...like a wide belt or obi.

Another thought -- Maybe the short sleeves aren't the right length for the silhouette of the skirt, which I think would look great with sleeveless or long sleeves.

#1 is super duper awesome. Well done! Of the skirt looks, I think I like the untucked tee best.

I really like how you're wearing these pants. I like all the looks, and you do the semi-tuck or slouchy tuck so nicely in 1 and 2. Woo-hoo!
I love the blue and white tie-dye tee, too. I like the idea of it with the skirt, but am not crazy about how it actually looks with the skirt, either tucked or untucked. I do like the untucked version better, but I think I'd prefer that outfit with a jeans jacket over it, and then you'd probably be too hot for summer. Going off the inspiration photo, I'm thinking maybe you need a looser tee to wear over the skirt.
On the last outfit, what about wearing the chambray top unbuttoned and untucked, over an untucked tank or cami?

Thanks Sheila and Caro - low contrast and tonal are why I like #1 which helps me understand my own preferences.

I think Suz's inspirational picture has more of a drapey blouse.

I just bought a tee that has a looser bottom (but not big on top). There was a negative review that said it was almost an A line tee. I think they are much easier to semi tuck. I think I would have preferred a blouse, but I am not having luck finding blouses and I need something to wear.

I wear a cami underneath. I don't love it, but it is closer to what I want.

I do love that skirt so I hope you can figure it out.

I love #1, closely followed by #2. As for the skirt, I like #6 the best and would also like to see you wear a top with a vneck or more of a scoop with it.

Another thought - have you tried the tee from #1 to see what it would look like with the skirt? Just to get an idea of what a semi tucked drapey top would look like.

Thnks Karie, Velvetycocolate and Sarah. We're out of town for a couple of days so I spent the day on planes. Without internet access, oh my! Wearing, of course, the peach pants and navy tee with the gray sweater and a jean jacket over all that. Talk about major layering, but it worked for my needs.

Sheila and Firecracker and I think I was swayed by the darker color of the inspiration photo and didn't give enough weight to the shape. I didn't do justice to Suz's suggestion! This skirt is really a challenge!

mtgirl, thanks for the link. That is a nice tee. I did think of trying the gray sweater with the skirt but haven't gotten around to it yet. It would be nice for a cooler summer evening. If you're familiar with THE oversized Gap cable sweater that so many fabbers have, I've worn that with a pencil skit and been quite pleased with the look. Completely different skirts but I think your suggestion would work.

Cheryl, in the past I have typically worn what you suggest. Unfortunatley I kind of "grew out of" those couple of tops. I need to keep working on this challenge : )

I love #1 especially too (though not seen the earlier thread, am afraid, since just coming out of hibernation here).

And had a thought about the skirt---would it work with the black V-necked top? Lovely as the patterned one looks, I have a feeling the deeper neckline would be even better with the skirt (Disclosure of bias: I have a similar skirt and typically find myself preferring a scoop or V neckline with it, over a scoop; an open collar works too, though...) If you can add a spot of white or silver to your top half with that black tee---a pin, a scarf, a belt, a necklace, that would be perfect I suspect!

I look now to your last thread, and OMG, are these the same pants or what did you do???:-) Much, much better, and more love! ALL. Esp nr. 1 and 2, but 3 is also very good!:-) Great job, Phil about the skirt too. Love both incarnations!

For the skirt and top looks -- I think it's the cut of the top. Instead of being drapey, it is fitted. In particular, there is something off (IMO) about the fitted sleeve with this skirt. I am not sure how a long drapey top would work on your body type (that is a really tough look for anyone to wear -- volume on volume).

I looked up "full linen skirt" on pinterest. A lot of the pins show historical costumes, and many of the others simply show an unstyled skirt. This gives you a clue why it might be tough to style this well -- the skirt, while lovely and practical for you, may in fact be a bit dated.

If you want to try a drapey top with this, maybe going low contrast again would be the most successful. Another option would be a more fitted top tucked in and belted. You could try a simple tank or a button down. That wouldn't be a "current' look but it would be classic. Again, I'd probably go for plain white (for a white on white look) and if you need to add navy to echo the skirt's piping then maybe in an accessory? Maybe a tank would work in the navy.

#3 and #6 are fabulous too. For #6, I vote metallic sandal, and scrunch the shirt up a little untucked.

Manidipa, good to see you back! How are you and the baby doing? Yes, I agree with you about the v neck or scoop neck as those are necklines I feel work better for me and my short neck. This higher neck tee is not a typical silhouette but I liked it anyway : )

Another love vote for #1 - fantastic outfit. I like #2 the second best. For #3, it's nice too, but I think I"d try the cardi over an unexpected color instead of matching the navy...maybe an olive green or even a two tone muted stripe or something.

#6 is looking good but not sure if it's done. Much prefer untucked with this skirt.

I don't think the sleeveless chambray tied is working for me with the skirt. I was thinking more of a long sleeve (light weight) chambray with the sleeves rolled and scrunched -- untucked with maybe a belt. Again, trying to figure out a way to "roughen" up that skirt a bit. I prefer the metallic sandal.

Well done overall -- Yay!
