pants to tuck into boots that aren't jeans or leggings?

I've been wondering if there are any pants that aren't jeans or leggings that can be tucked into boots (and look good). More essentially, is tucking pants into boots limited to casual or business casual wear, or can it also be utilized in business formal and other more classy outfits?

I would think it is a casual look. I have a pair of skinny cargos that I plan on tucking into boots this fall.

Kate - I experimented this weekend with tucking the BR Skinny Martins into riding boots, and I think it worked. It's definitely a look I'm going to play with for the fall.

I'm not sure what the answer is, but I hope we can figure it out--seems like there must be a way.

I got some fairly classy ponte pants (Tahari) recently. If I tucked those into nice boots, would that count as closer to business formal/be classier than leggings or jeans tucked into boots?

In my estimation, this look can't really be adapted for "business formal," which I interpret as the kind of thing seen in most law offices (suits etc). I'm sure the look would be perfectly appropriate in some more artistic "business casual" settings, however, I know I could get away with it at mine, for instance, but I would *never* wear it to a formal meeting.

I would consider pants tucked into boots a casual or business casual look. If an office is suits or other more formal wear, I would not sport this look in that setting.

i wear my br martins the same way as tara. to help with the tuckage, i get a pair of cushy athletic socks and wear over the pant leg after putting in a side tuck.

i tuck along the inside leg as that is where i have the most room between the pant and the boot shaft. tucking along the back should also work.

i'm knitting legwarmers to wear over pants (same function as athletic socks) to peek out over the boot top for the nas sendra boots.

What about something that evokes a riding vibe - brown moleskin pants tucked into boots? Definitely not business wear, though.

I think it falls under the same heading as sewing it yourself- which is allowed. I'm just finishing up my first fall sweater of the year- inspired by one that I saw at NAS.

Anything skinny tucks well. Also, try wearing boots with walk shorts and clams. I might give mine a go with harem pants.
