Pants for tween/teen girls.

Hi-

I haven't posted in ages and today I'm posting on behalf of my petite 12-year old daughter. Does anyone has advice for selecting pants for a 12-year old girl? She's not all that interested in fashion, but definitely does not like wearing jeans (they're not comfortable!). Fortunately, neither of us likes the leggings-as-pants look that many of her friends sport. She's been living in fold-over yoga-style pants (see finds) for about as long as I can remember, and it's time for her to branch out.

I find the selection to be maddeningly limited to leggings/jeggings, jeans, and not much else. I'd love to find her a pair of comfortable cargo pants, or joggers that aren't too casual (i.e., sweatpants). Is anyone else struggling with this issue? Any suggestions?

Oh gosh. Yes. I was going to ask if anyone even wears pants anymore. What about capris?

Not sure.

My little one is much younger, and her go to is a dress over top of leggings. She won't wear tights, and she insists on dresses.

It is an...interesting...look.

LOL Thistle I remember that phase, it will pass don’t worry.
My daughter is 10 but is size of 12 years old. She likes jeggings from H&M, they have pockets like jeans but are soft and stretchy like leggings.

Rachy - I guess I'm lumping capris and pants together, but capris seem to have the same issues - lots of leggings and jeans, but nothing else.

Thistle - she's definitely out of the dress stage, so that option is out. But I remember that phase well!

Anchie - I'm afraid leggings might combine her two worst nightmares: leggings and jeans!

I have a similar problem. I have a soon to be 13 year old and she wears pants that are a children's size 10 (but a 13 in length). She also does not like jeggings/leggings etc. The struggle is real.

I have purchased Roots sweatpants for her. I don't love "Roots" across the bum, but they fit, and have a string belt that can be tied tighter to keep the waist snug. You could look into the boys sweatspants which would not have the logo issue. https://www.roots.com/us/en/gi.....ml?cgid=Ki

I've also had luck at Old Navy for my daughter. If you look under "uniform pants" there are some nice choices though only two colours. The also have sweatpants.

Our local thrift store has always produced a find or two.

I know you didn't ask for dresses, but I recently purchased a dress for my daughter at Eshakti... It was made of georgette material, not expensive and really fit the bill for an upcoming wedding.

You can suggest those pants type below for wide selection of tweens/ teens pants
* Straight Pants
* Ripped/Tattered Jeans
* Overalls or Jumpsuits
* Cullottes
* Square Pants
* Baggy Pants
* Dungarees(with bib)

My 10 year old granddaughter does not like tight jeans, but she likes the ones from American Eagle, they are the jeggings and very stretchy. She likes the jeggins from Justice also.

Another vote for the slim or skinny track pants from Roots. My daughter loves them, they are comfy and practical for active girls, they wash well and last, and are substantial enough to provide appropriate coverage (i.e. they are definitely pants not tights )

Last year Loft had some really nice chinos in various colors. Maybe they have them again. I also enjoy my utility style pants from WHBM. Both offer a petite size. For what it's worth both styles bag out after a few wears.

When my 15 year old was that age she wore - jeggings from H&M and American Eagle Outfitters and boys sweatpants from Roots. That was it. She's branched out a bit now but still prefers athletic wear for comfort. Recently she got a couple of pairs of Nike sweatpants at the outlet store that are really cool. One is a dark olive green so looks a bit like utility/army pants, the other pair is black.

My slim tween had luck at Lands End, Old Navy and Zara Kids - another place to check is Uniqlo as some of the XS pants are really XS
