Pants at Zara right now: Mix of wonderful and awful?

I haven't looked at the Zara site in quite a while, but just spent some time perusing.

Am I the only one who found the selection of pants a mixture of extremely tempting and sort of horrifying? I'll see if I can post some examples.

I kinda like the denim skirt culottes. Not that I'd wear this, but it's an interesting look.

Oddly enough, I kind of like them as well. The inset gores actually create a pretty flattering line. They're also loose and flowing (not baggy) in the seat and rise, like traditional culottes which really imitated a skirt.

You have the same link for a "tempting" and a "really awful" (the olive pants with the buckles).

I think Zara's always like this -- full of wild and often fun extremes.. and maybe "bottom" silhouettes are the main place where experimentation is happening these days as the silhouette begins to alter? Interesting.

I saw the ones with the ruffles and laughed out loud. I know someone could make them look cute, but I'm not a fan. And I'm with you on those flared denim culottes.

I love the trousers with the buckles on the cuffs. If only I were 20 lbs smaller and Zara bottoms ever fit me.

Thanks, Suz, for pointing out that I'd included the buckle pants on both lists -- anyone care to guess on which list I meant to include those?

Since I already fixed the list, I'll say that I LOVE those and actually have them in my shopping cart in both colors.

I'm with you on most of these. Love the olive ones, no petites though and I'm sure that buckle wouldn't hit me in the right spot. I'm not ready for the loose jeans though. Maybe after I've seen them for a while. Totally agree with the awfuls. I'm sure someone could make the ruffle ones cute but not me.

Zara is basically always a mix of good, meh, awful. Which I think is nice--some people really can pull off some interesting things. The buckle pants are cute, apart from the drawstring--I'm not a fan of that trend, and palazzo pants are a hard no for me. The pants with the ruffle on the bottom--I'd be interested in seeing who could pull it off.

RobinF, in my experience, Zara doesn't have petite pants at all.

I like the frilled / bottom ruffle pants look, though I would likely not wear it.

I also like those pants with buckles on the bottom. There was an odd little trend of buckled ankle cuff bracelets in the last fashion week, and these remind me of it a bit.

I'm glad you didn't think the olive buckle pants were awful because I adore them. But also? I had (and adored) a maxi skirt that looked very similar to those culottes circa 2006. So my taste might be suspect.

RobinF -- I have rather short legs, and unless the length was ridiculously long, I think I would be tempted just to use those buckles to cheat it until it was acceptable.

I think I have to talk myself down from those pinstriped palazzo pants, however, since I really don't wear heels and short legs in this much fabric without a heel underneath? Hmm. Anyone bold enough to convince me I could pull this off?

Or would it merely look like I'd gotten caught in a tablecloth?

I hope you enjoy the buckled pants! I like them.

The denim culottes and ruffled pants are things that I would enjoy seeing on others, but I would never wear them. They are fun but would look just tacky on me.

Not a fan of the ripped-up jeans. If you're going to have that many holes in your jeans, just wear shorts, ha ha.

Those ripped up jeans look crazy awful. At least the holes are symmetrical! And the pants with the ruffle, yikes! I really like the palazzo pants and the pants with the buckles.

I know you're all wondering, "WHAT did April do with regard to those Zara pants?" so I'll fill you in.

The Zara site was having a glitch where it would not let me enter payment information (!!!) so after attempting 4 or 5 times using different browsers, I called customer service, hoping to place my order by phone. I told the sales associate about the site problem and instead of offering to take my order over the phone, she told me to go back to the site and pay via PayPal.

I actually attempted to do this, except part of the glitch was that there was no option to check "pay via PayPal."

And that, Zara, is how you lost a sale.

That was really terrible customer service. I hesitate to order things online so when I decide to do it, it better be easy.
