Pant lengths, in Theory - YouLookFab Forum

Sorry to always de-lurk to ask questions about pant length, but it's a continuing struggle. I purchased 2 pairs of Theory pants at NAS, both of which are "cropped" in the Nordstrom photos (see Finds), but not at all on me. I've taken some photos to help me with deciding on length, with some various footwear.

1-6: Brown plaid (Ignera) - I have one leg pinned to be cropped vs. the other leg unpinned (as-is). I think I prefer the longer "as-is" length, similar to the length of Angie's Boss suit pants. Thoughts?

7-12: Burgundy (Relax) - These are several inches longer than floor length as is (the model must be about 7' tall). I have pinned them to a "no-break" longer length, which is more practical than a cropped length in my climate. Note I will probably press out the front crease. Thoughts?

I agree about the longer length on the first pair. Re the burgundy - did you repin for the darker shoes? I like this version better than the other, but am wondering if it’s the nature of the shoe and not the leg length…

Pants are always long on me, too, so I feel your pain. I like the lengths you have these pinned to, with the footwear shown.

The grey pair could be either/or. I like the shorter length slightly more, but the longer length is good too. I’d let the burgundy down a smidge more than you’ve got them pinned, but obviously not as long as the way they came!

You can send the remnants to me. I believe I have only one pair of pants that is proper floor length. Short pant legs is my bugaboo and I’ve just about given up!

I bear the scars of having always been tall as a kid (haha) so I have something against cropped pants to begin with.

I think the shorter length is ok on the first pair, but like the longer better.

I think the length you’ve got the second pair is just right. Nice and full-looking, without dragging in the muck.

I think both lengths work with the grey pair but unless you’re going to wear a high shaft bootie in cool weather, I’d leave them full length and then alter later if you want. I like the length of the burgundy—it seems showing a bit of the shoe these days is the way to go. These look great at that “no break” length. Very modern! Love those pants with the color block sweater especially!! I’m totally anti crease—so press them out! Great to see your fab self btw!!

I am more in a longer length mood lately, which might be affecting my judgment, but I like the longer pinned length with the plaid pants and I like the "shorter full length" that you have pinned the second pair. And, I love your hair!

It’s all about the shoes….re the 1st pair, I think the longer length works with the boots, but don’t love it with the loafers….I know, what a pain, and I struggle with the same thing. But I like the shorter length with the boots as well, so I’d hem those
On the burgundy pants, I’m with Runcarla, I’d hem them a little longer than you’ve shown them. And just wondering why your going to press put the crease?

Yes to the longer length with the grey, and just slightly longer with the burgundy. Love the burgundy pants especially!

kkards - there are only about 3 weeks in the fall when I can wear loafers here in MN, so I'll probably go with the longer length. These pants are very fluid, which to me doesn't "go with" the structure of the crease, but maybe that's just me???

Soooooo, all the lengths here work. It depends on the shoes and personal preferences.

My suggestions to cover all bases:

Keep the plaid pants as is
Shorten the burgundy pants to the pinned length

Checked jumper with the burgundy pants = KILLER to the Power of KILLER

I'm with Kkards regarding the first pair - I like it cropped with the loafers and either length with the boots. But if the longer works better for you then that's what you should do. I wear cropped pants all winter if my boots are tall enough.

I like the pinned hem for burgundy - really nice pants!

Angie, thanks for weighing in about your thing, pants length! And for the KTTPOK. And for teaching me about bookending my footwear/hair oh so many years ago! It's great to be sorted, and I only have to hem one pair of pants. NICE!

RobinF - Thanks. I haven't had great luck finding tall enough booties, so I'll play it safe and keep those pants long.

I am late but I liked the first pair as is for sure. I am not so keen on cropped pants these days except in summer, mind you. I like the second pair where you have pinned them.
At 5 foot 1.5 inches ( 156 cm) then 7/8 or “ankle grazer” pants make me very happy since they are often full length on me. I have been hemming pants for decades and am so happy if I don’t need to! I am with you about the 7 foot models!

With winter coming. I would keep pants long at least until spring. One of my pet peeves about retail is that all pants seem cropped. And I am only 5'3" and shrinking. I must have long legs because pants fit me like they do the model, cropped leaving ankles cold.I will be happy when the cropped and ankle length trend is over..
