Pant length - are these OK?

After Sterling’s recent post I mentally put a pair of jeans in the donate bag (they are hanging up to dry after washing them). The pictured jeans are not baggy. But what about the length? I think they’re shorter than the other pair, but that might be just because the others were baggy. Are these the right length with these booties?

Those look a bit short to me. I like that width of pant to almost touch the floor.

To me they look good, but I admit I am hopeless with pant lengths - I think they perhaps *could* be a touch longer, but I don't think they look too short, if that makes sense ... probably no help at all!

They are typical of a length I’d wear. I don’t see them as too short, but maybe everyone looks at my pants in horror, lol.

I like them that length. Gives me a feeling of comfort, lol. Yes, I confess to liking too short pants with flat heeled shoes... I think it has to do with urban life and being out on the street. I want to know that you can run if you need to, lolz.

That length is perfect; any longer and they would not hang right in front.

I tend wear pants at this length for practical reasons, but they would look better a bit longer. If you like the fit everywhere else, maybe DIY release the hem. I did that on a pair and they look great.

I find once Angie points out nonPPL, you can’t unsee it.

JAileen, I think a decade ago we wouldn't have thought this was too short, but now the trend is pushing towards extra long. I do have one pair with a similar length if worn with low heels. I mostly wear it with flats so it skims the floor but on occasion (for practical needs) I wear it with heels like yours, for a similar effect. I do try my best but can't always pull off fab every day...

Hey you guys, thank you for your honest opinions. Obviously I asked this because I thought they “might” be on the short side. I’m going to try to post pictures of their overall fit as soon as I can. I do think flats or sneakers might work.

To me the issue is that the bootcut is small so they are not wide enough at hem to cover a boot and nearly hit the floor. They are already breaking on the vamp. If pants are long and need hemming, it is possible to get an angled hem that falls lower in back. Otherwise you need to wear them with lower vamped flats so they fall over the top of foot and heel.
I like some types of “ baby bootcuts “ but ironically find then they don’t work with boots, but need flats.

Too short! These are meant to be grazing just above the floor. They should cover a good part of the front of your boots (toe of boots sticking out) and the length in back should go almost to the very bottom of the heel on your boot. It will make these look a lot more current.

Boot cuts and flares too short, I assume, Angie?

The one nice thing about skinnies and BF styles -- with crops still being stylish, you can choose to wear these styles full length, ankle length (rolled or cropped to that length) or in a higher crop/ roll. A bit more forgiving, that way.

JAileen, I'd prefer these longer. But I agree also with unfrumped that it might be difficult in this particular style because the boot cut is not very wide -- they might not fall well at a longer length.

For the longest time I had a pair of bootcuts very much like this. It was a very subtle flare at the bottom, just a smidge wider than a straight leg. Like these, they always felt a bit off with any sort of heel but I loved them with flats, thin-soled sneakers and sandals.

PPL with flares and bootcuts is especially tricky, because I find most pants "settle" over the course of a day's wear. I think most of my pants sit about half an inch lower at the end of the day vs when I put them on. With crops this isn't such a big deal but with full length pants it has given me some trouble matching shoe vamp/heel to pants inseam. Some day I'll measure and take photos to confirm this...

Suz and unfrumped, you have a point about the width. This is why I have so much trouble with straight-leg pants. I had a pair of ivory cords--I loved the fabric and color--and first I had it hemmed too long but because the opening wasn't wide, it didn't drape right--just had a funny fold. Then I tried hemming it shorter and it looked unflattering. Now I just don't buy any straight legs and baby bootcuts anymore.

Suz, YES. Bootcuts and flares that are suppose to be full length. Tapered hems are a lot more length-forgiving.
