Pantone colours 2019

In my recent style review post, I inserted a link to my Pinterest inspiration board. Suntiger noticed I had pinned some Pantone colours for 2019 and asked which ones I was thinking about adding to my closet.

All of them!

I don't know what will make it to retail, but this particular set of colours is just so d@#% joyful!

I agree! These are beautiful colors! It makes me happy to see the toffee and the greens included in the spring and summer colors. I usually think of them as autumn hues, but will happily wear them in warmer weather!

Very interesting. Reds and pinks plus earth tones does seem very current, as do those deep golden yellows. I love olive and brown for spring! They are literal spring colours for me, but "Last Year's Grass" and "Pothole" probably don't have the right ring for Pantone swatches.

Gorgeous. I look forward to hopefully seeing the pinks in the stores. Finding "my" colors has been challenging this past year. Perhaps that will change in the near future.

Pretty colors, but not really my palette. Another year with not much in my preferred colors — it seems this year there was so much pink, lilac, shades of yellow and mustard, and earth tones. Not a lot here for cool/jewel tone lovers except for that blue, which is one of my favorites. I do like those orangey warm colors as an accent, and a little olive green, but for the most part, those colors are not my most flattering or useful. I’ll enjoy them on others!

I second what Janet wrote. There were a lot of great colors out there in retail, but not the colors that I personally can wear well. I need the cool jewel tone colors. Am I understanding the the new colors will be more of the same? They "seemed" brighter on my computer screen. Sigh.

Another cool jewel tone lover here. I like the middle column the best for me, but look forward to seeing all you warm hue people rock the left and right.

Straight down the middle for me, except veering off to the right on the bottom row. But I don't really get it. These are the colors they're going to make clothes in this year, and that's (basically) the extent of choices? What about people who don't like or wear those colors? Do they expect most people to lemming up and buy whatever happens to be in the store? I'd love some jewel tones too.

Like I wrote...who knows if these will even hit mainstream retail!

Fashintern - Pantone sends out a colour forecast every year. I don't think of it as a response to what folks want, but rather inspiration garnered from the people they gather data from, and maybe a dose of wishful thinking. I collected this information as specific to the New York Fashion Week S/S fashion shows. I pinned it because it made me happy to see all these vibrant colours!

Pantone has become so broad that they have different palettes for Paris, Milan, etc. Also, this isn't JUST for clothes, but for home decor, florist bouquets, snowboard designs, whatever.

I am sure retailers will look at this, and then put in their same old orders and we will be dished up more skinny jeans, black skirts, millineal pink sweaters, etc. However, one can dream!

I agree with you that it is by no means a response to what people want! From what I know of it, the info is gathered very much from "experts" and "influencers", the point being that the rest of us will paint our walls or pull on clothes in colors in the forecast. That's where the "doesn't make sense to me" comes in--I have known for several years what color I want my and my son's bedroom to be. It doesn't matter a bit that the color for mine is one of the colors of the year for this year, other than that it's a bit irritating that a few years from now, people will assume I did it to be trendy and am now out of date. Then again, maybe they aren't the people I want to have in my room anyway, lol.

I’ve always enjoyed looking at Pantone’s annual forecasts. Even if my “winter” coloring makes me veer towards jewel tones, I’d still pin this swatch to my bulletin board because I’m enthralled by the sheer loveliness of the shades, hues, and combinations. To me, Pantone’s annual palettes have never been prescriptive as much as they are a way to celebrate the hundreds of shades and hues available so our eyes are refreshed and our color sense re-invigorated.

I may, or may not, wear or decorate with any of this year’s colors, but I’m still inspired by them. Gorgeous palette!
